Well, half of my collection happens to be glossy promo cards!
Wondering, a microfiber cloth along with which cleaning solution do you think would work best? As to not interrupt the glossy finish on the card!
I wanna see these babies shine!

Don’t do it unless you like scratches on the card
Can you eleborate? I’m guessing the gloss is super sensitive and can easily be taken off especially with older cards… should i just not clean them at all???
This stuff works wonders
That’s hilarious xD
Personally, I wouldn’t clean them. The glossy cards scratch super easily - which is why they are hard to find in mint condition. For mint copies you essentially need to peel them and sleeve them.
If you want to test anything, you can always order some cheap vending series cards (or whatever other glossy vintage Japanese card) and see how the gloss reacts. I don’t know if all Japanese vintage glossy cards were made with the same process, but I imagine it was similar for most.
I think I will not clean them after all. Or I’d have to find a special glossy card cleaning solution made for it. As these cards glossiness(Pokemon gloss) is almost greasy with people touching them over the years it seems(gross). I’ll look for a special solution and attempt them on some very cheap corocoro cpu error glossy cards I have and check under magnifying glass to see if the result is pleasing.
Oh I’m a dummy that only enhances the surface, recommended is an eye glass cleaner first as it is super smooth cloth. Just a dry clean, no liquid solution. Then polish.
Check with the cheap glossy cards first for sure. I don’t know how these card polishes work for gloss, but the polishes that have been used to “clean up” holos and holo scratches have seen some controversy here on the forum. If you look for threads discussing card polishing, card cleaning, Kurt’s Card Care, you can see the discussion surrounding these types of cleaning.
I see, so the polish counts as an alter to the card. Eye glasses cleaning alone should do it then. I just need some of that ol’ finger grease to come off, forget the polish
Don’t use polish of any kind. If you’re really concerned to do this… In the camera world we use this. It’s not cheap (should be like $20 for tissues and solution) but it’s the best method you can get on the planet. I use these wipes and this solution on $10k lens glass. You will not add scratches to the gloss when you do this. You run that risk if you just use a lens cloth as it collects debris. Depending on how nitpicky you are.
Obviously ignore the lens blower. The cool thing is these are useful items for a great deal of things around the house anyway. So it’s not just for cards, but computer screens and the like. Oh and spray solution on tissue, light amount like one spray or two tops. Then delicately apply.
Genius. I love it, do you happen to have a link for the cleaner and wipes?
Thanks so much i collect hundreds of these old promos so keep the glossy portion clean is super important, you’re a life saver. @brendantheclayboy
Hey man, reading google AI in the niche areas of Pokemon TCG isnt a solution. Its a recipe for disaster
Agreed. AI confidently states misinformation all the time.
I once tried to clean the tiniest spec of dirt off an ooyamas Pikachu and ended up indenting the card surface. Probably went from an 8 to a 4 lol.
The surface is super fragile. If there is dirt on the card it has probably already left an indent in the surface
My views on cleaning are a bit extreme compared to most (read more here). Given that, I would recommend to not alter your cards, especially if you plan to grade or sell them in the future.
For context, this is how I define cleaning vs. altering:
I view any restorative procedure as altering the card and immoral if not disclosed.
Cleaning [- i.e., the integrity of the card is not changed and chemicals are not added]
Altering [- i.e., restorative procedures]
Sorry for the late reply and was also doing research on N7-Cleaning. Since PSA is the only company i think that grades this type of card i collect, i better not be cleaning them at all then. Thanks for that DYL that woulda been a huge mistake.
