Question about cracking open PSA cards

Hey guys just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think about cracking open PSA cases.

So far my collection consists of 1st edition WOTC sets in binders. I am missing a holo snorlax and just bought a PSA 8 for less then I would have paid for a ungraded one in worse condition, so i’m contemplating cracking it open. I just started collecting recently but I have seen this multiple times where PSA 7-8 auctions go for cheap what are your opinion on this??

If you want it in your binder and don’t plan on grading in the future, why not just crack it open?

It’s an absolute joy for me that psa 7-8 sell cheap. They look great to me personally, but a majority of collectors really enjoy the pristine cards. More people want to buy pristine cards, they command the higher price and desire. Thank god, as I’ve gotten some great deals this past year on 7-8s

I’m happy to just swoop in and pay quite a bit less :B

Personally I don’t mind lower grade cards in my collection at all. Too many people get caught up in the grade in my opinion and so just don’t seem to value lower grade cards… you can buy cards that are gem mint apart from the centring when buying 9s and some people wanna try charge like 4-5 times the cost just because the label says 9 I stead of 10. It’s about owning the card and wanting to look after it more than what the number at the top says!

For me personally it’s more about what card it is, if it is say an unlimited Japanese base set card then I prefer a 10. Exception to that would be holofoil cards. I recently bought a PSA 6 Charizard because I wanted to have a least one in the collection for the time being and I got it at a reasonable price.

On the flip side if it’s 1st Edition English Base or No Rarity Japanese base set than I’m fine with collecting 9’s just to have the cards in the collection. It’s a cheaper investment and I can always upgrade in the future.

Exactly! I would rather have a placeholder, I can always upgrade them. Pointless to be picky about 10s and miss out on cards I’m looking for just because of a number at the top of the case.

Cracked a few open that I wanted just for my binders (they were 7 / 8’s). its kind of a joy to split those things open in my opinion

one time… i was cracking a few cases (which i don’t do often…) and it was a 1st edition psa 9 shining gyarados… my knife cut and sliced inside to where the card was… needless to say… next second… the card was not a psa 9 worthy shining Gyarados…

fun times

I feel like I must add this for the benefit of OP - if you do decide to crack a PSA case, be a good guy Greg and send the label to PSA so they can remove it from the POP report. I know it’s just a PSA 8, but still.
