I am currently in a predicament with a booster box I recently bought on eBay, and would love some opinions from the e4 community,
I recently purchased a sealed Ultra Shiny GX box for a real good price on eBay ($70 counting eBay bucks). However, when I received it, there was a tear in the seal that is shown in the pictures below.
I am afraid of this significantly effecting the value of the box, and I’m not sure whether or not I should return it. What makes the choice more difficult is the fact that I will probably not be able to get another Ultra Shiny box again for the same price unless something happens to make the value of this set drop.
Do you think this tear affects the box value enough to warrant a return, or is it not as big of a deal as I think??
Thanks ahead of time for your input/help!!
If you know that you are not happy with the condition of the box, then you should return it or see if they can exchange it. I know I would be a bit disappointed to receive a box with a large slash if I were buying it to keep sealed. That being said, I would also pay a little more for a better seal too. With this being a newly released set, I’m sure there are many NM+ boxes out there.
Another option would be to buy a new box anyways and ask for pictures before you commit. Then, If this box is already worth more than you paid, you can resell this box now or hold onto it and maybe see a bigger gain later.

Since you said it was a deal (how much did you pay?) don’t bug the seller. Just list it and it should sell quick.

From what I’ve seen in old WOTC boxes and ex series boxes, seals with cuts and slashes only diminished the value a little bit. Since this is a new box I can’t call it. Maybe it was such a good deal because of the slash? If it wasnt pictured or described with a slash I’d say you’d be justified in returning it. I guess it just depends on how much bang you want for your buck!

I am assuming that you plan on keeping this sealed so yes it does hurt the value slightly but because this is a very common box that you got for a good price based on the current market I don’t find it to be a big deal. If the slash was clearly shown in the photo and you just missed it perhaps bugging the seller about it might be unnecessary. I tend to look at each situation from the buyer and sellers perspective as I think that is only fair.

Sometimes box wraps get a tear while being packed or unpacked so no one would know it’s origin. Plus, sometimes the buyer puts a little tear in it hoping to get a partial refund. Doesn’t hurt them at all if they were just going to open it anyway.
