Question on buyer's pay period

Hello! So I have a situation as a seller on Ebay. I am having an issue with a buyer on Ebay and contacted Ebay about it but now the buyer contacted back and I have no clue what to do now. I had a buy it now up with make an offer, the buyer made the offer at around 12 am, to which I accepted right after seeing the offer. The buyer didn’t pay last nigh nor did they pay at all today. I had called Ebay to ask what happens if the buyer doesn’t pay within the 48 hour period. The person I was speaking to had told me you have to open up an unpaid item case against the buyer, to which then they still have another two days to buy the item. I wanted to cancel it because I had even contacted the buyer because they did not answer me all day. Ebay said though that if I were to cancel then that would be a slight against me as a seller because the buyer did not consent or want the item canceled as well. I opted to then wait until tomorrow night and if the buyer didn’t pay make the case. However, the buyer just messaged me back saying they still wanted the item and that they would pay Thursday morning. Thursday will be the fourth day since the offer though and Ebay’s payment policy is 48 hrs. I don’t see how this is fair and how this buyer can just say this and I can’t cancel the item. The buyer also has some really bad feedback as a seller, to which I did not notice until after I accepted the offer. Does anyone have any advice on what to do here? I am just at a loss of what to do about this situation. Thank you in advance for all responses!

Dude, chill out. Once a bidder wins leave them alone for a week or so. Don’t sweat it and waste your time. It’s not worth it.
Sometimes people pay immediately. Sometimes they pay in a few days. And sometimes they don’t pay at all.
Just give it time and let eBay handle it when they don’t pay.

@garyis2000 , I apologize if this came off as too much or overbearing. I am still very new to the selling aspect and I honestly had no idea that it was okay for buyers to pay beyond the 48 hour period. I always thought the policy was you only had 48 hours to pay for an item. Is it best to leave everything for now?

eBay is usually 4 days to pay and then the unpaid item case is another 3 or 4 days, you can specify instant payment on your listings if you don’t want to wait.

@danis04, You are just getting first time jitters. If the unpaid item case is already open, all you have to do is wait. If they pay, ship the item, if not, close the case after 4 days and relist the item. Its a very common scenario and you have nothing to worry about!

@smpratte, @shizzlemetimbers, I was honestly just very confused and under the impression that if a buyer didn’t pay within 48 hours that I was supposed to make an unpaid item case. I am grateful that you both have given me this information that I was unaware of. Going further into the selling aspect of Ebay, with this knowledge, I can continue to grow as a seller and be less stressed as well. Thank you both very much for helping me out and easing my worry

Ya I have definitely been rushed to pay as a buyer after accepting a offer. But I commonly accept a offer at night and go add cash at the atm the day after. I usually send a message to the buyer explaining. Most are kool some are kind of rude. If eBay allows a 48 hour window there is nothing wrong with using it as a buyer as long as you pay within that time. The funny part is a few of the times I was rushed to pay I noticed a crease I over looked or another time a card where the title says first edition but it was a unlimited. Just be patient everything plays it’s course

you can also opt to use ebay’s automatic unpaid item assistant, which will automatically open up a case for you.

When you cancel a sale, feedback can still be left, which can’t be done when an unpaid item case closes without payment.
