Quick Question about newer Booster Boxes

I’m contemplating buying one. Is there any of the newer boxes that is particularly worth purchasing? Obviously I’m looking for the thrill of opening, but I’d be glad to get the most bang for my buck if possible. Also: Is there anything I need to look out for? I’ve heard of fake or resealed boxes and I’ve no idea how to identify them. Thanks!

I deal alot of newer Japanese merchandise, and older vintage english / japanese stock.

I think the rate on unique japanese booster boxes which are exclusive to japan, are increasing in value quite highly slowly. And generally items with Charizards, or key shinings will go up in price faster. I.E Wild blaze / emerald break.

Just stick to buying from legitimate business’ and those with high feedback, and you should be okay.

Also read descriptions carefully, for resealling, or weighed packs… or people who have replaced cards… there is some crap sellers out there with bad photo’s and descriptions… and my advice, don’t buy seperated booster packs, they are generally weighed and don’t have secret rares.
Try look for sealed boxes.

Thanks!

I don’t plan on buying individual boosters, I just want a whole box. I don’t plan on keeping it sealed, I want to open it. Maybe I’ll keep the cards if it’s financially a smart idea.

Anything you’d recommend in that case in particular? Preferably English.

I doubt there’s an anything in Pokemon from the newer boxes that will actually make you money, as it seems like that’s part of what you are after, unless you want to start with a starting capital and then just keep opening boxes and selling its contents for the thrill!

I kind of miss the collecting part in your question.

As for where to get them, en.pokemoncardmarket.eu/ seems to be a good start if you’re based in Europe as your local shops will likely be expensive, though be wary that the shipping costs for boxes within Europe are pretty expensive, so this may breakeven with local means when going for just one box, but for multiples it might work better.

I’m not looking to profit off of the box. Basically, I’m asking what box to get that would be the most likely to give me a good return. For example, I saw that pulling a Rainbow Charizard GX would pay for the box itself if I were to get so lucky. It’s not my main concern to get profit, I want the thrill of opening a box, but potentially making a profit would obviously be a bonus.

Ah okay, but still remember that this is not feasible over multiple boxes, for just one or maybe a few boxes you can indeed gamble on high value cards.

Burning shadows is a fun set to open being that there are a lot of “hits”.

Play around on this site and you can see what the highest value cards in the set are. Great for not only choosing what box to pick to open, but also for knowing what is worth something when you pull it. I use it as a quick resource to figure out which cards are in need of bulking out from time to time.

No biggie. I’m not trying to collect the set or anything. It’s just that I want the thrill and it’s also a little for education. Since I’m not well versed with the newer cards I want to buy a box and get a good feel for what the cards look and feel like so I can identify fakes. I feel like this would be my best course, just buying a box. Idk if it’s a good idea to keep the cards and sell later, or sell them after pulling, or send them to PSA, or whatever. ; Basically just asking for advice on what box to get and whether to keep, sell immediately or send to PSA so I can accomplish getting a thrill and a good feel for the cards, all while maybe even having a shot at making profit.

Amazing site! Thanks a lot. Yeah, I also had my eyes primarily on Burning Shadows. The Charizards look sick and we all know how popular it is. The rainbow one especially looks incredible.

An additional bonus is probably that a lot of people are trying to complete the set at the moment and competitive players may want to buy some FA’s for some extra swag in their decks.

Guardians rising is 50/50 on breaking even or profiting with Tapu Lele being $60/75/100 depending on the variant you pull. Plus bulk and codes you will easily get $120 a box in value if you pull her.

Burning shadows has many $10+ ultra rares, but I find it harder to turn a profit on that box unless you pull the hyper rare charizard. Guzmas are $4 a playset and the codes are $12 right now.

Wait, why is it 50/50? Are you guaranteed a tapu lele in a box?

No I say you get at least one variant of her per 2 boxes hence the 50/50 profit on a box. The problem with buying new booster boxes is you need to buy them 2-3 weeks before release. I get all my boxes for $75-$80 on ebay pre-release. Once the set is released your looking at prices close to $90, which is much harder to turn a profit. I’ve opened up 2 Guardians Rising and 3 Burning Shadows boxes and have profited on them all but that is pure luck. The first GR had 2 lele, and the second had the SR Ultra Ball. The BS boxes had Full Art Guzma, Hyper Rare Gardevoir, and Hyper Rare Muk + Full art Darkrai, which all covered $50+ of the boxes in each scenario. When you open a box expect to lose about $30. You are pretty much guaranteed $30-$35 back on each box with codes + bulk prices, then factor in 4-8 ultra rares at an average price of $5.

That makes sense. Thanks! ; Do you think it might be wise to just wait for a new set to come out and buy it pre-release?

Note I’m from Germany though, so Idk if I could get one from, say Britain, since US Shipping+Import Taxes are insanely expensive.

Also: Is there any info on a new set release?

Buy either the Elite Trainer Box of Shining Legends or the Ho-oh Super premium collection out October 6th. They will run you $40 and $80 MSRP, but you can find them cheaper right now on preorder. That set is going to have some huge value with the shinings and GX in them. Its going to be like generations where you can only get packs from specialty products, not a booster box. Each of those product comes with 10 packs (picture only shows 8 but it is 10) + Shining Ho-oh (ETB) or Shining Celebi + Shining Lugia + Hyper rare Full Art Ho-ho + Promo Pikachu (Super Premium Collection).

Crimson Invasion introduces the Ultra Beast GX, but I don’t know enough about the set yet. That is released Nov 4th.

These look amazing. I reallly want to pick one up, thanks for bringing this to my attention. Does anyone know where I can buy them from within Europe? I really don’t want to deal with import taxes. It’s a real pain.

Watch this for when they start presales

Wait, do they do preorders or will they only come from individual sellers? This will probably run me cheaper than if I bought from eBay, which would cost 40€+9€ shipping and an additional 11€ for import taxes, I assume?

And will I be able to differentiate between the US and UK version on the site? I’ve read that the UK version is not getting the figure, playmat, box or the artbook at all.

I’m not sure since I haven’t really been paying attention to what is happening in Europe regarding product differences. I had heard that site was the largest Pokemon TCG site in Europe but if there is a better option someone else chime in.

I don’t even really know if they sell stuff themselves? I think it’s more like europe-exclusive eBay for pokemon cards?

Could any europeans chime in? How do you usually buy elite trainer boxes or stuff like that?
