Rainbowgym collects whatever she likes

Hello,

I am not that handy with pictures and posting, but I want to give it a try.
While I am a binder collector, I started around 2017 to grade my left over cards (which are many) and sell them.
But not all cards are allowed to go, some have to stay with me.
I also have taken good care of the cards/trophees my kids earned during our most active years playing (2001-2015)

I will post not to often and I will not follow a timeline,
My first show off will be 2 displays I made to give to both my sons.
November 2022 they both moved into their first own houses with their partners.
I wanted to give them something to remember me (and their dad) about the years we traveled around the World to play the Pokemon TCG.

I have a lot of memories to share.

This is the display I made for my oldest son.
Each card has a story connected.
Before I started to make this, I asked them both which cards they had fun memory about or which cards they wanted in the display.

I know for both I would add a card who reminds them about me and the highest place they got at Worlds.
Time to have them graded, because I kept them in a binder and now they will find their final destination.

My oldest son asked for his name in Unowns, check. J A S P E R
His most favorite deck was Latios/Latias, he didn’t mind which ones as long as both could be in there.
Lunatone/Solrock also a deck he enjoyed to play.
Worlds 2004 he ended in top 16 with his gardevoir deck, so both gardy should be there.
Blaziken/Manectric also a deck he enjoyed a lot.
And the bottom row is a card for each person who traveled with him to Worlds for many years.
Roselia for me, Cubone for his dad, Wynaut for his brother, Elekid for his “lease-sister” Jeanette and Treecko for a long time friend of them Arco.

This display is not about how many PSA 9 or 10, it’s about memories and the grade/value doesn’t matter.
Thank you my son because by living with us you gave us also memories. I hope this makes you never forgot us.

The second display is for my youngest son.
He also had a few requests what to have in it. Still I made the final choice.
He placed 2 times very high at Worlds so I decided to have both of those graded along with one card of the deck he used.
Worlds 2006 3rd place with Blastoise
Worlds 2007 5th place with Metagross (only lost the last game that tournament to the overal winner)
He asked for a few of his favorite Pokemon to be in it.
So I took Tyranitar, Gardevoir.
The Ho-oh is to remember me (I have a few pokemon I like in this order, Ho-oh, Roselia, Blissey, Sudowoodo and Gardevoir)
His partner told me she likes Vulpix so much, so I arranged a few of them.
Snorlax and Mew are referring to 2 good friends, he knows who.
The bottom row is his absolute favorite pokemon —> wynaut.
It took me a while but I got them all 5 in a reasonable grade.

I know he will have great memories when he looks at this.
Again not about the value (however those 2 worlds promo’s are worth a lot)
Thank you for al the joy you have given us.

I hope you enjoyed the first look at what I collect.
When I have time I will find another object in my collection to show.

Enjoy

I love this so much, @rainbowgym! You were so careful and thoughtful with these gifts. Thank you for sharing them with us.

This has been an awesome post to read. These are so well thought out gifts for your sons. It is also very inspiring to me as a new parent myself, the importance of having these memories now which can looked back fondly later on.

Thanks very much for sharing.

Cheers!

No better collection or a card than one with such precious story behind it, all the love and caring just pours out of your displays and text

@rainbowgym What a great share! Thank you! Some really great memories in those cards! I shared Pokémon with my son as well. We still play together and collect together!

Super cool that you have such wonderful memories with your sons, thanks for sharing!

Because both boys moved out of the house, I have spare rooms.
We are going to renew our Kitchen and my workspace. (which is part of my kitchen)
I have to move a lot of stuff and before I started I took a picture of the messy desk and the display I have for my favorite cards.
When everything is finished I will make a new picture. I will get a lovely display on the wall and a new desk and a lot of cabinets. Plans are to have it finished around July (yes it needs a lot of work)
Everything (cabinets/table/floor) has to go, it will be a complete new everything.

While I was packing stuff I decided it’s now time to really sort things out.
Because with each drawer/door I opened to empty, the memories came.
Insane to have 5 drawers with booklets/stickers/lanyards/goodies (no not a single pokemoncard in there)
I will post pictures as memory for myself but I know there are collectors out there who also enjoy to see this old stuff.
If you don’t like it, just skip my story. It’s going to be an amazing trip through 20 years of playing/collecting Pokemon.

Amazing what I find in the drawers.
Things I haven’t seen for a long time and some I even don’t know how I got them.
Calculators have a special place in my heart. When I was a child those were expensive and not made for general use.
And how many magnifiers does a person need? I think never enough…

Wow, this is amazing. What a wonderfully thoughtful collection for you and your family. Thank you so much for sharing! I really enjoyed reading the story for each card and seeing all the extra old little goodies! Made me nostalgic for my childhood with Pokemon :relaxed:

@rainbowgym great display! Where did you purchase your display from?

Those personal displays are sweet. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome to hear the connection in your family and have that imbued in the frame.

the displays are from totalempirellc.

Before I move on to some cards I collected, this is a sweet memory.
I have to find the missing ones because there should be more of them.
As a family (with 2 “lease children”) we attended 10 years in a row Worlds.
sometimes 5 (out of 6 of us) played, sometimes only 1 or 2.

My “lease children” kept their own badges and stuff, so I “only” have those of my own kids and myself. Still it makes me smile when I see them.

These are from my collection and just returned from PSA.
Top 3 cards have an indent (ring of binder)
To much memories attached to those cards.

That’s incredible, I love every item from Worlds, I am currently buying spectator badges but I have never seen some of those badges before
