Rarity/Scarcity: Real Life Examples

Smpratte’s newest video is important to understand. To that end, give me your best non Pokemon/Collectible example of the differences between rarity and scarcity.

Look at something like Gold. It’s rare but not scarce.
Conversely look at some of the other precious stones that are really scarce and rare, like Australian Opal.

That’s what drives the price.

That is good example! Precious metals and stones are the epitome of rarity/scarcity.

Diamonds are the worst offenders of being scarce and not genuinely rare.

It’s weird but I think it applies here.
Blue Throated Macaws are incredibly rare and almost extinct, but generally easy to obtain in aviculture.

Hyacinth Macaw is not as rare as a Blue Throat but high demand causes it to be very scarce in aviculture.

Good one:)

Me having a girlfriend is rare, but girls definitely aren’t scarce.

Lol I agree with diamonds above haha.
Such a ludicrous marketplace.

Oh gosh this is a hard question to answer…
All I think about is collectables so am unsure of a non collectable to apply.
Maybe the clothing or food industry.

Kobe or wagyu beef is marketed as rare and high quality, but not always is high quality.
Fish eggs and caviar is difficult to grow but fairly heavily farmed, and is fairly common.
Then your basics like bottled water, probably one of the least rare items which is gouged up heavily at stadiums or via its brand sometimes.
