Ratio to get PSA 10 from Sealed 1999 Pikachu CD Promo?

Hi, one of my goals is to own Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur CD Promo in PSA 10 copies.

I checked on the PSA website, the average price in PSA 10 is:

Charizard $ 650
Blastoise $ 400
Venerea 350 $

the total would be $ 1400.
Unfortunately I am based in Europe and people tend to overestimate everything here because there is not much supply. Just a quick example, Charizard alone costs 1300 € (1417 $)!

So maybe I should buy the sealed 1999 Pikachu CD Promo, open it and send to grade by myself . I did some research and found it for around 850 $. Is that price good?

How is the ratio to get psa 10 from an open sealed one? If it’s over 60% chance, I would choose this way. Tell me your experience!

Please reply only if you have opened a sealed one and send to grade.

Thank you.

You save yourself a lot of time and most likely a lot more money by just buying already graded PSA 10 copies. I don’t know what kind of print quality 1999 CD Promos had but just thinking about the fact that the cards are over 20 years old I personally wouldn’t like the odds with grading PSA 10.

@yamahap45, Its a crapshoot I have opened a few of these and the quality varies. It is by no means a guarantee that you will receive any 10’s. The biggest issue I have run into is centering.

Why not just buy the cards from the us for cheaper?

There are multiple in auction. This one was most likely graded by Gary in the 90s: ebay.us/xvfTTZ

This is a good topic, does PSA even grade the Pikachu cd promos? I dont see it on the list

PSA can’t tell the difference between them and a regular shadowless copy, so no. CGC and Beckett both designate them however.

Thanks for the clarification.

I opened a sealed one and the cards were OC and got 9s. With my n=1 sample size I can confidently say that they are all off center.

After customs, import taxes, shipping etc. you are probably back at the crazy European prices or over…

True :slightly_frowning_face:.

When all those cards submitted from Gradedgem and Ludkins Eu will back in Europe I hope will be a lot available.

Excellent proof by induction, can’t argue with that logic

See now I opened one and only graded the Pikachu which got a 10 therefore I can confidently say all of the Pikas are 10s.

I had pretty good luck, think I opened around 15 a bunch of years ago when they were $50-$75 a piece, but can’t remember the ratio. I will say there is no such thing as a “sealed” copy and with how people are these days, I can just imagine them opening, checking the centering/condition and closing it back up.

I opened one and the only 10’s i hit were charizard and arcanine. Rest were a range from 5-9 lol
