"Hi, I’m reaching out for guidance on authenticating signed Pokémon cards by Mitsuhiro Arita on eBay. I’m looking to surprise my younger brother, who’s an avid Pokémon fan, who is wanting a few
signed cards. However, I’m unsure how to verify their authenticity.
Could you please share your expertise on what to look for when purchasing signed cards online? I’d greatly appreciate any tips or advice on ensuring the signatures are genuine."
I definitely wouldn’t want these four. The two raw copies look like forgeries to me, and the graded copies look messy.
The Umbreon looks the best in my opinion. CGC’s Signature Series autographs are authenticated in the presence of a CGC representative, so they will almost assuredly be real.
You’ll never know for sure if something is a forgery or not, so your best bet is buying a card that is already authenticated by a grading company. I would recommend familiarizing yourself with Arita’s autograph so you can spot suspicious or ugly copies.
A recommendation would always be to write to the seller to find out where the signature comes from. I once had one that looked a bit strange but the seller was able to send me pictures of the signature directly. It is always best to get them from a trustworthy collector.
Cgc signature series are witnessed signings so they would be 99.99% real
Anything that isnt witnessed by any of the companies and is just authenticated is there opinion on its authenticity. So while id usually go with psa myself given the option of a cgc signature series vs a psa authenticated item. Id get the signature series one myself.
