Hi all
I was considering regrading this PSA 7 Charizard I got on my collection, as in my honest opinion I think it should be a PSA 8.
I got all the Japanese 1996 basic set in PSA 9, excepting Venusaur and blastoise which are PSA 8, and this PSA 7. Before deciding to sell this Charizard, I was considering giving PSA a shot, taking this card out of the capsule, and re sending it for grading.
what are your thoughts? Tried to do my best at taking the pictures. The card centering i think it is pretty good, corners and edges are great, surface looks very clean too.
they only defect I appreciate, it’s at the back top right corner. As you can see, it seems there is some kind of white mark, not exactly sure what it is. Despite of that, do you guys think it could be a possible +1 at least?
Thank you!

Something that stands out to me is on the front of the card, top left of the 4 Fire energy marks. There is a 3 shaped line, if that’s a scratch, it deserves a 7 imo.
It’s a pretty well established fact by now that none of these grading companies are all that consistant. One retard will give something a 9-10 and another retard will give something a 7. We’ve seen numerous videos of cracked/resubbed cards to the same grading company (or a cross grade) to see a lot of stuff go up, sometimes go down. I don’t think this card is in danger of getting a 6 though and you miss all the shots you never take.
If you wanna crack it, go for it. Just know that its no guarantee that it comes back higher, let alone a 7 again.
You never know what’s going to happen when you crack it (damage) and when you resubmit it (could come back lower). Given current market price and cost of grading, unless you have some sort of attachment to this particular car, I think you’d be better off buying an 8 and selling this 7. I don’t think the risks are worth it. Just my two cents!
Must be something going on with the surface to warrant that grade, only thing I can think of based off those pics but it’s hard to tell. An 8 seems reasonable, so could be worth a try. Given the marginal price difference between the 7 and 8, it might also be easier to sell the 7 and just buy an 8.
- Visible surface damage on back right corner area - Shown in i.imgur.com/DAVI2TR.jpg and the pic you posted below it
- Vertical print lines and light scratching on foil: i.imgur.com/xa8qLfh.jpg
- white dot and vertical print line on top border to text
- Back right corner area also has whitening - marking it seperate from other surface damage - i.imgur.com/XCq9Ktr.jpg
Has a chance at getting an 8. Only one way to know for sure.
I’d crack it just to brush off that white pube.
100% this. Minimum PSA grading price is $50 + two way shipping of about $30. The price difference between 7 and 8 is around $100-125. There is no guarantee you will get a boost in grade. Cracking this is not worth it imo.
