Reholder Submission -few questions

Hey all. I am preparing 6 PSA graded cards (10s and 9s) to send in to PSA for reholdering and just wanted to verify a few things before I send off my cards.

  • For the packaging, I have all the cards in PSA graded card sleeves for a little extra protection and am going to follow the typical 2 pieces of cardboard on opposite ends (stack of 6 PSA cards - too many stacked?) with rubber bands holding them together. Since I have never actually sent in PSA graded cards for re-grade or re-holder, I wanted to know if this is the best method to minimize risk of damage to the case/card?

  • For the service, I believe PSA should automatically reholder the cards as long as there is no substantial damage to the case which I don’t believe there are on any of them. On a couple there is some whitening along edges but not significant enough to suggest compromised cases. I know they will update the cards to a new holder and the Lighthouse label, but I wanted to know if PSA will update the pop report to reflect the new PSA “label type” and “reverse cert#/bar code” to reflect the changes? I ask this because it would be a red flag to a potential buyer down the road if they looked up the cert and the results showed the old label and no reverse cert/bar code.

  • For the turnaround, just wondering if I should go ahead and submit now or wait until after the whole virus pandemic calms down since I really don’t want to risk my cards lost in transport/grading limbo. If others have submitted recently or in the past, how long of a turnaround am I looking at for reholdering? (I previously looked on the PSA site and said varies by demand)

@miguelito so Ive went through the process and its super simple, so hopefully i can help here.

  1. For packaging, just package normally as you would anything else jsut with measure to protect the cards. Id recommend wrapping in bubble wrap and using a box to where it fills it out while making sure theres no room for the cards to move around. This can be done using extra bubble wrap or even packaging paper. Overall, just try not to stress it as things should be fine so long as these measures are met.

  2. PSA will reholder the cards without regrading so long as theres no apparent damage that looks like tampering. I have a few cards that need to sent in myself with chips on the edges, but so long as its not directly over the card, you shouldnt have to worry. You could try contacting thing via phone to double check, but that might be hard at this time. As for pop report things, they will update everything accordingly but the cert will stay the same with a new case, so nothing really chases except the holder.

  3. Times are rough, and although PSA reopened for certain services, im not sure how reholdering would be put into this mix. I personally have an order currently there which hasnt seen any movement so Im not willing to reholder mine just until things start to calm down. Its already cased, so i see no rush in the matter, but that choice would have to be to you. When I did a reholdering months ago it took me about 3 weeks total, but i would assume it would be much longer now so just keep all the in mind when deciding.

Hope this helps!

@miguelito, One thing I would definitely recommend is to scan all of your PSA cases front and back. Although they have been graded and are slabbed, once PSA opes them to re-slab hypothetically IF a PSA grader were to drop or mishandle your card and damage it, you will need proof. If you have scans of the card within the case already graded and it comes back any different in a new case they will have to accept liability as it cannot have happened anywhere else.

Thanks for the responses!

I feel better submitting my cards for reholdering now and think I will hold off on this submission for the time being, at least until the pandemic craze lightens up a bit. Thanks again!
