I was going through some of my charizards and noticed one looked way more red than the rest. I’ve seen this before with base unlimited, and I know the “Ruby” designation exists for shadowless, but I’m curious if its also used to describe unlimited? Here is an image, with the more red (potential ruby) version on the right:
If I needed a term I would call it a High Saturation Card. That could cover any degree of high deviation, of which there are plenty across different types, species and prints.
That is what I was thinking as well! I remember some of my Blastoise having the darker color, and was like are we doing all precious gem names for each color? Like sapphire Blastoise, or emerald venusaur.
Agreed. I usually refer to mine as magenta saturated. Cards like this I’d call yellow saturated, etc.
@shockerb37 set the bar for these. Here’s my Flareon
This is a good older thread that shows the variations with Shadowless well:
It seems like it impacts a lot of the earlier WOTC sets, I guess the amount of ink and other cost cutting that was happening at times? Makes it harder to duplicate cards as well I suppose.
We all agree that the saturated colors are objectively better, right?
We do.
When I first started collecting…I thought that my “saturated” unlimited Charizard was a fake. Didnt realize some people targeted this variation.
Yes, I may not have a deep red base set Charizard, but I do have a Deep Black Rayquaza (UK print Version)
