Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum but was recommended to join and make a post by a good friend following what I can only describe as a complete scandal of a box break stream on WhatNot last night for a 4th print base set booster box break by seller Global Nostalgia.
In short, by the end of the stream it was realised that the holo hits which everyone is chasing did not possess the all important 4th print 1999-2000 date stamp that gives them their value due to the low POP and rarity in high grades.
Having already collected 14 of the 16 holos myself in PSA 9/10 I was keen to get involved to try and complete my set with pack fresh holo hits. As a result I waited until 17 packs and 5 holos remained and committed to buying out the remaining box for nearly £7,200.
The seller is already highly aware of my existing collection and that I would only enter on the basis that the holos possessed the 1999-2000 date rather than the standard unlimited 1999.
The first holo to be hit by someone was a Raichu - I asked on stream to see the print date to confirm 4th print as it was not made clearly visible and small blurred text on screen - this request was ignored and the holo quickly taken off screen.
Just a side note to add - the stream began with the box visibly already open on stream with no seal and so not proof of not being tampered with.
I was in and out of the stream but 6 holos later including someone pulling the Charizard the seller had not flagged to anyone that the 4th print date was not present - looking back it was clear to see the attempt to cover the area on the front of the cards where the date is stamped with a thumb placement and flip the cards to show the back more than the front and then quickly take them off screen.
By the time I was opening my heavy holo packs and actually hit both of the remaining holos I required to complete my set I re-asked to see the print date on screen - low and behold no print date and unlimited standard only!!! All buyers now questioning their hits and the seller refused to bring anyone’s holo hits back on screen to prove they are all unlimited and not in fact 4th print as advertised. Seller then continues to stream and ignore requests to deal with the issue and then just carry on selling cheap singles.
What astounds me more than anything is the seller is an “expert” in this field yet fails after the first holo hit to prove the cards have the 4th print date (I things knew) yet continues to sell the box out on the premise they are indeed 4th print - consistently then covering the front of the card and getting hyped and excited about all of these rare 4th print holo hits including a Charizard of potentially £20k + value in a PSA 10. To then let me commit to buying 17 packs at £450 each knowing I only collect 4th print date without saying oh hang on these are actually unlimited and so I wouldn’t recommend anyone but after the first holo confirms this is disgusting behaviour for one of the biggest WN streamers in the game - why risk your reputation, why then not immediately deal with the issue?
I now have an inbox full of messages from other buyers and viewers equally in shock at how this is NOT being dealt with.
I have screen shots showing the handling of the holos and attempt to cover that everyone has now picked up on.
I have contacted WhatNot and requested a cancellation - hopefully they do the right thing but I wanted to share in an open forum space more to ensure people realise what’s going on in these streams from apparent “Top” streamers.
