Sealed 1st ed base packs price

I haven’t been paying the closest attention to this, but to me over the past 3-4 months it looks like Base Set 1st ed loose packs have been falling in price, while pretty much every other WOTC pack has increased or at least stayed level in price.

Any thoughts?

They’ve definitely dipped a bit. Routinely under 1k when $1200-$1300 was consistent mid last year. I’d say it’s the supply hitting the market. It could even be the same packs being flipped, idk. Price is going down due to increased availability.

A lot more supply right now than I can remember in the past 1-2 years.

You’re never going to get an unweighed first edition loose pack, so no one wants to pay $1300 for that.

Blisters are a different story though. Perceived as safer and harder to weigh. Their prices have been doing well.

Look at vintage magic though. Fairly simple to search, yet those prices are still high. Sure the uncommon and commons are worth more than pokemon UC/C, but they are a piece of history.

The price is high because there are far less vintage magic packs out there compared to 1st ed base. I can go out and buy a heap of 1st ed base packs off eBay, but even if you have the cash and want an alpha/beta/unlimited pack they’re not that easy to find, you usually can’t just hop on eBay and buy one these days. Even arabian nights, legends and antiquities packs are getting scarce on eBay.

Most of the people buying these packs are pack collectors that don’t care if the pack is searched, they’re not being bought to ever be opened they just need one for the collection.
