so basically what do you guys think about sealed product? mainly im talking wotc booster boxes and packs vs wotc graded cards 9 or higher excluding base zard. For example will the 1st edition fossil booster box out do 1st ed base cards that are currently sat at a higher value. I know nobody can tell for certain what will happen, its just the fact that sealed product can only become less whereas graded cards can only increase in population leads me to believe in the long term. sealed product such as wotc booster boxes will become front runners over graded cards with maybe exceptions of cards graded 10s. Im curious because im thinking to purchase a 1st edition fossil box or maybe a TR box as i feel they are actually quite affordable right now and i feel they have so much potential in them in the long run being a major piece of Pokemon history. If anyone has any experience or advice on sealed product or an insight on what future market will look like in comparison graded cards id find it very helpful
I would honestly not touch packs, but then again they are quite liquid and in high demand… so I guess that’s just a personal preference. Booster boxes on the other hand seem like a safe bet, but there’s really no telling what kind of growth potential they really have. If someone was to tell me Base Unlimited will be $10,000 10 years from now, I’d say they’re crazy though it’s actually possible.
My personal opinion is that Team Rocket is too expensive. Rather than buying a box you can buy 3-4 PSA 10 Dark Charizard for the same amount. Just a quick look at sold listings shows the market kind of agrees with me where prices seem to have dipped from $2000 to $1500-1600. So this is a perfect example where I’d obviously opt for graded rather than sealed product.
There are just too many variables to your question. It really depends on the set/card so you just have to study the market and from there you decide what seems like the better investment for you. I will admit there’s a ton of product both graded and sealed that seem crazy undervalued, but it remains to be seen if they will ever get any kind of major increase.
Meanwhile its really the early nintendo sealed product imo appreciating the wave. EX Dragon frontier boxes are like $4k and boxes like EX Deoxys can’t be found under like $4.5k - Jungle/Fossil/Gym unlimited runs were too numerous, surprisingly perhaps to some - but the analysis in the guide section shows 3rd gen perhaps has lower print runs than nearly anything else in the series (except for late e series) and therefore stands the most to gain
I bought a few 1st Ed Fossil boxes recently. At 1200 to 1300 I was happy with the price. Im not an investor though, Ill open the boxes in 10 to 15 yrs.
