I just won an auction on ebay and was about to pay but I got a popup that said “One or more sellers can’t accept payment right now.” The seller hasn’t responded yet but I’d be uneasy about paying the seller on any other venue such as paypal or venmo because it wouldn’t have Ebay’s guarantee. Any advice on this?
Edit: Thanks guys. Called ebay and they said to have sellee call and to not use any other site to pay. Seller was acting fishy. Ebay’s advice was to.find another seller for the item.
If it was me I definitely would call eBay to see what is going on. I would not pay for anything outside of eBay.

Are they in vacation mode? OR perhaps its something more scandalous
This has happened to me as well. Sellers had stellar reviews so I reached out to them and they fixed it (had something to do with settings) so that I could pay through PayPal. If the seller does not respond reach out to EBay (as mentioned above)z
Was it a very high amount?
It was 3800. 4100 with tax and everything. Wound up having ebay cancelling thw order
Many countries have gotten very strict with import/export license requirements. I had had trouble paying multiple items over $2500 when they were in a different country. It can get complicated, so while I would not recommend going outside of ebay for a purchase that started there - it really may not be in that particular seller’s control.
If you did pay through regular paypal invoice you actually have a broader coverage as a buyer than through ebay. Buying through ebay just gives you a secondary protection option but you are actually covered less through there than strictly through paypal.
