The P/T/J promo releases span from July 2001 to March 2003. The J promos are Jumbo cards; the T promos are regular sized cards which were inserts in Pokémon Card Trainers magazines; and the P promos are also regular sized cards from various release methods. There are 47 P promos, 24 T promos and 2 J promos, for a total of 73.
And one I don’t like because of artwork, but because of the way it was released instead. I like how one card was in the P-promos set, and one in the unnumbered promo set, to end the previous era and start the new one.
For the P promos I love ho oh and rapidash. As for the T promos I’ll go with the Dragonite line. I have dratini and dragonair which were some of my first purchases getting back into collecting, and which I found thanks to the fourum.
I love how painterly they look. That mew is simply gorgeous to me. I know it is sometimes “divisive” (maybe because it has a weird body or head shape?), but it was truly one of my first online purchases back in 2017 when I was dipping my toe into Japanese promos!
I still miss the legendary birds, while Pichu was a recent purchase.
You really can’t go wrong with any of those cards.
If I had to choose my least favorites I would say the johto starters, not the most inspired Arita:
The P promo subset of JR Stamp Rally Promos have it all! Unique art and release, connecting art by a single artist, high popularity pokemon, some rarity, and even a reference to Super Smash Bros with Pikachu’s attack
I always thought the Pichu was referencing the Pichu from the short Pikachu & Pichu that aired with the 3rd movie Spell of the Unown. (Not sure if this is true for Japan)
If it is one of the brothers it will be Pichu Little due to not having a decent hair cut like his big bro. Although, I think it would’ve been so neat to have Pichu Big on the card instead!
As for one of my favourite cards in the set it would be the Meganium from the Starter Triple Get Campaign.
This card reminds me of the film ‘The Land Before Time’. One of my childhood favourites. Maybe Meganium has that appeal to me in general however this art sits well with me in particular.
The artworks sole focus is of the Pokemon, the background is blurred and the colours are soft. It’s rather cute, it’s illustrated by Himeno, it’s a very limited promo in Japanese and holo. Ticks a lot of boxes that I would look for in a card.
Many of my favorites have been mentioned. The Dragonite @Dyl and Imakuni @Quuador P promos are just so good. Some that I also really like not yet mentioned are the Pokemon center promos,
My least favorite are the middle evolution T promos of Bayleef and Crocnaw. However I do like the Quilava. It is one of the few depiction of this Pokemon where you can see its otter likeness.
