I am currently collecting reverse holo cards from the EX series sets, particularly those that feature the set name in the holofoil (so EX Team Rocket Returns through EX Power Keepers). I have noticed that the cards from these sets have pretty big problems with print lines, including some that I bought as “near-mint”. Here are a couple examples from my recent purchases:
Reverse holo Exeggutor from EX Holon Phantoms:
Reverse holo Arbok from EX Dragon Frontiers:
Are these a common occurrence in reverse holos from these sets, or did I just get unlucky? I really don’t want to have to buy PSA graded versions of these cards just to get an actual near-mint copy without atrocious print lines.
Common occurrence. A print line doesn’t mean it’s not Near Mint:)
(Although I can see why some people may see them to be unappealing enough to not want in their binder. But I would think that PSA would grade an otherwise flawless card with this sort of print line as either an 8 or 9.)
Yes, Dragon Frontiers, Holon Phantoms, and Crystal Guardians can all feature print lines. I’m collection Dragon Frontiers right now, (raw cards) and I have print lines on my Holos, Ex Cards, and Reverses. Even my Gold Star Charizard has one! I don’t plan on grading them, so I think it makes them fine binder cards and gives them character, ha ha.
And yes, a card with a print line can still quality as NM. Good luck collecting the Ex reverse holos, I think they’re the best reverse holos Pokemon has ever printed!
Its about as common as grass in a prairie. I graded the reverse holo diglett from crystal guardians that had the stupid line, but was flawless otherwise, and it got a psa 9.
The theory I heard when these sets were coming out was that the holofoil layer used for those sets were smaller than the card sheets and those lines are the gaps between the different the holofoil sheets. It’s more of a feature than a defect.
I agree with the others that it’s not damage at all. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s not physical like a normal print line is. It’s not a scratch; it’s actually part of the holofoil layer. So it’s more of a misprint than anything, IMO.
Like its been said print lines are common especially on Delta Species cards. Great sets to collect by the way. Good luck on if you continue to collect them
