Today in the mail I got the shikishi I won from Saitou.
I know a lot of other e4 members have won too, and thought it would be fun if we could share them on here.
He was kind enough to also include some postcards of his art. =)
Wow these look awesome. Gives off almost an ancient steampunk vibe.
Thanks for sharing these.
Cheers!
No one more deserving.
I love the diagonal ones
omg I really liked that one! Congrats!
He will allow you to win twice
These are so cool! Still trying to win once
Here is the Shikishi that I won a few months back
I hope Kouki Saitou has more signing events in the future~ I am itching to get a couple of cards signed by him.
These are great! Often I’m not a huge fan of an artist’s work outside of Pokemon, but all of these are super cool!
Question for you Shikishi collectors, do you folk’s frame your shikishis? If so, do you have any good sites that have picture frames in the shikishi size? Or would it be better just to go to a picture frame store and have a custom sized one made?
Bumping this!
A while ago I was fortunate enough to win a ‘coloured paper’ lottery. I was super stoked to win the artwork and I think it looks super nice in person. The coloured paper texture and feel to the canvas really adds a lot of character to the piece. It is very flimsy though so i do handle it with care.
I also took this opportunity to message Saitou-san on his IG. Since I did not want to come across as a obsessive Pokemon fan, I did not use the opportunity to ask him some questions about his art. To be honest I am not an art person, so I am not competent to ask him more about his art style. However, I very much enjoy his works in terms of the character designs and possible stories behind them. To me they look very comic-book or video game styled characters and I wanted to know more about them. But I was too cautious and did not go past the usual formalities.
I did however try my best to know more about Saitou and his works. I came across this interview which he did for a Japanese website which specializes in TCG accessories and supplies. I would also encourage anyone wanting to know more about him to go through the interview. I found it to be very insightful.
I also managed to get the product for which the interview was done on Mercari JP for a decent price. It contains a playmat, deck box, sleeves and some pins.
This also gave me some courage to ping him again on IG and ask him more about the characters. He mentioned that the character that I won in the lottery ‘Clockwork Jack’ is a character from a story he had planned a long time ago. He is a mechanical toy and in order to keep moving, he also has a wind up key attached to his back which he needs to wind from time to time.
I asked him some other questions about some of my favorite works of his from his IG post, specifically if he had a database of all these characters in terms of background story, powers, abilities etc, since I told him it would be cool if he could launch a book with all of his character arts and descriptions. He mentioned that unfortunately he did not maintain any database and just creates these stories in his head and designs a character around the story.
All in all, happy with my lottery winning. Saitou-san is a very chill guy, very patient, polite and responded to all of my questions. I am happy I was able to interact with him. I am a fan!
Cheers!
Those are soo cool.
