Trying to do some analysis on these two boxes…seeing conflicting info, not sure if anyone knows for sure though:
First question, if you pull a shining from either neo rev or neo destiny, does that replace one of the 12 holos in the box?
Second question, I see maybe the averages to pull a shining is 2 per box in Neo Rev and 3 per box in Neo destiny. But I also see much more scarce odds. Any consensus on this pull rate?
I believe the pull rate is 2-3 shinning pokemon for Neo Destiny. I don’t have any personal experience with the set. However, I had a friend open one years ago and got 3 shinning from it. Also Pokerev is going to do a Neo Destiny opening this week so that’ll give you another point of reference.
My opinion, just based off personal experience, is that shining pull rates do not differ from regular holos. When I opened a neo destiny box in 2010 I pulled 6 shinings, sometimes people pull 3 or 4. Since there are 16 non shining holos and 8 shining holos you would statistically pull about 4 in a box which is usually about right.
So the neo shinings are like the crystals. They don’t have gold star difficulty pull rate. By the way, its often stated that the Japanese neo shinings are much harder to pull, but do anyone know the pull rate for Japanese crystals? They also seem rather scarce.
The guy in the video opened 33 packs and pulled 8 holos and 3 shining cards. Based on other videos I have seen I would guess that the combined total of holos and shinings is 12 per booster box on average, with equal pull rates for shining and holos. Never thought about it, but that would mean that pull rate of a regular holo when opening a box is only 22%, pretty interesting.
Based on information I’ve gotten from people who have opened boxes, it lines up with what the others above have already stated that the shinings since they are a holo are considered part of the “12 holos per box”. Because of this, they are in the same pull difficulty as any other holo in the set and in a sense, dilute the pool for the regular holos in the Destiny set.
Both sets would have 12 accumulative hits (holos/Shinings) per box, so yeah, 8 holos with 4 Shinings, ect… I have seen a few outliers with 13 (including mine ), but that’s just early WOTC for ya.
Neo Revelation gave 0-2 Shinings per box. I still uphold the personal belief that they are just as rare as any other particular holo. If you opened 1000 Neo Rev boxes, you’d hit as many Gyarados as Smeargle.
First edition Neo Destiny typically had 2-3 Shinings.
I believe the later print of unlimited had more variable pull rates, with the range being 2-5.
*Edit*
A holo and a shining in one pack is indeed wild, I’d probably have a stroke.
Oh, I thought the title was referring to the 4 Shinings being the error. I retract my statement, a holo and a Shining is indeed an error lmao
I think even Revs recent box had both Shinings iirc? Can’t remember. I’ve definitely seen two from a box before though. I’ve also seen whole Japanese Neo 3 boxes without a single one in all 60 packs. That would sting.
If we apply the logic of the Neo Destiny pull rate to Neo Revelation, you will pull on average 1.5 shinings per booster box. 14 holos and 2 shinings in the set. 12 holos per box, so on average you would have a 12.5% chance to pull a shining, which equates to 1.5 per box on average. So 0, 1 and 2 are all definitely possible
