I have a deal to purchase a card from a fellow board member in Canada. I live in the U.S. We both want to know what sort of import charges would be associated with my purchase of his card assuming the seller declares the value of the card at its purchase price (which is ~6k). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any other international sellers who can provide insight into how to legally minimize import charges, please lend us your insight.
It depends where in Canada. Depending on the province, you have to pay either gst, hst, or both. So that’s anywhere from 5% to 13%. (Or if you use GSP it’s like 20% to 30% regardless of province for some absurd reason, so it’s better off for the buyer to pay the import and the insurance and it’ll still be cheaper lmfao )

Here’s the list of provinces, they should know their provincial tax rates.
Edit: There’s an estimating calculator for your buyer there as well.
I appreciate the detailed response but just to be clear the seller lives in Canada, so he’s shipping to the U.S.
I can’t read, apparently. I apologize
I don’t know info about the other way around, sorry.
Maybe it’s different for high value items, but I thought people in the US don’t have to pay import fees?
There will be no import charges from Canada to US
Thank you for the responses. Anyone think differently (i.e. that there are import charges/fees from Canada to U.S.)?
