Recently I bought some cards to send in to get graded and I have plans ready to get them graded at PSA, however as I’m slowly checking the conditions of the card I noticed that one of my Japanese Base 006 Charizard’s is absolutely Gem Mint, the centering is spot-on, no surface damage, edges are perfect and no silvering, the only small flaw I notice is that there’s a very small white speck on the back of the card.
This got me wondering… Is there a point in grading with BGS? I would be disappointed if this card would not get a PSA 10 and I’m thinking that I have a shot at a BGS 10… What do you think? Should I pick PSA or BGS? I personally have no preference, but I do want to get the highest value out of it as I’ve read that cards graded at BGS are mostly worth less, and Ebay didn’t give any disclosure for this card.
I wouldn’t chance it with BGS unless you are 100% certain it would get a 10 (or as certain as you can be). PSA is the safest bet. If it doesn’t get a 10 at PSA then it’s not going to do any better with BGS.
Can we get an ignore feature added to this forum so I can just stop reading people’s posts that only contain asinine logic. You seriously want me to explain why it’s not beneficial to choose company A over company B when it’s known that the only way for company B to be the better option is based on the merit that company B HAS to make a mistake.
Maybe next time someone asks me what grade do you think this card will receive I’ll tell them probably around an 8-9 range, but if a mistake is made it could be a 10. Let’s go tell a bunch of guys that we have this brilliant plan on robbing a bank and the only thing we have to count on is that the bank teller doesn’t call the cops. Or how about we go skydiving with unapproved parachutes, maybe the people that didn’t allow them made a mistake.
I’m going to guess now you’re going to ignore my comment and just go into a stubborn defensive mode. So I’ll tell you right now, I don’t care what your next comment is. I’m done having this conversation.
Yo chill out man, everyone has their opinion. I do not understand how your two irrelevant points of view on parachutes and bank robberies have to do with grading cards? You went off topic in an attempt to make me understand something not even you can get through your head.
I know exactly why you want to keep people thinking that PSA is the only way to go. It’s because it will benefit you in the long run, if only we can all forget BGS exist right? So you won’t have to try for that black label, it’ll drive you insane. But if someone wants to know what will bring more money it’d be that Black Label grade. So simple; again I’m not saying there is anything wrong with PSA, just stating the truth about the pristine grade that most would pay a premium for. The OP asked a question and I replied with an honest opinion, quit loosing your shit their buddy.
Thank you for all for your opinions so far (more are always welcome ), I can see that the black label is very elusive to get and I must say that this is best card I’ve ever seen myself although I’m not doing this that long yet, but is there any way to figure out how it would compare to PSA prices? Like I know that this card on PSA 10 will get somewhere between $200-$300, but I just don’t know for the 9.5/normal 10/black label BGS counterparts.
I can imagine people buying a Charizard graded by BGS though if it’s an iconic purchase instead of trying to finish a full set.
@skiwi if you think your Charizard can get that BGS Prestine grade try it bud. If not then grade it with PSA it’s easier to get a 10. 9/10 you will get a PSA Gem Mint 10 if you think it could get a BGS Prestine 10. If it graded 9.5 or 10 with 3x 10 subgrades and one lower then send to PSA for a more blunt Gem Mint 10. They’re both great but BGS has that Black Label, I wouldn’t mind owning a Black Label Zard neither would @garyis2000 hehe.
How many cards have you graded with either company?
I use both companies for sports, but for pokemon, in my experience (which is almost 10 years for grading) PSA is miles more consistent. The rational answer is they have more experience with Pokemon.
Again, I use numerous companies for sports. Couldn’t care less about which people think is better. I don’t want BGS to be more inconsistent, that is again, my experience.
In relation to OP’s question, the numbers speak for themselves. PSA is the obvious go to answer for market value.
Plus the OP asked is their a point in grading with BGS my input was yes for the black label! I never said BGS was:
BETTER
How can you yourself, Scott, not see that shit? It fucking baffles me it’s like you and @cullers are like “PSA!” And I’m like “yeah they’re straight but the Black Label is great and elusively awesome!” And your response is “PSA Better!!”
@missingno why are you so dense you don’t understand that BGS 10 has nothing to do with this thread. The OP’s card isn’t a BGS 10 therefore BGS 10 isn’t a part of this discussion. Why do you keep on propping that as your only argument? He said there was a ding on the card, that’s enough to say it’s not going to get a BGS 10. You even admitted that they would have to miss the damage to get a BGS 10.
^I’ve put a lot of redundancies into the above paragraph on purpose. This point needs to remain anyone from this point forward bring up a BGS 10 or Black label is off topic.
Also I’ve never said anything about BGS 10, ever. Not in this thread, not in any other thread. I know it’s a higher premium card, every debate I’ve been in on this subject has either had BGS 10 being irrelevant, or has a been a comparison of the two companies as a whole (meaning absolutely everything including BGS 1, 2, 3, etc) not one single grade instance (that’s so rare 99.9% of card can’t get it).
You on the other hand @missingno keep ignoring every point and rely on BGS 10 when it’s irrelevant or such a short sighted view when comparing the two companies.
