Should TPC continue making new Pokémon? (Gen 10, 1025+)

New Pokémon has been essential to world building in every generation, but each of the new main games has brought on initial complaints of too many Pokémon to keep up with and appreciate. To not have new Pokémon in a new game can be a sign of stagnation with the franchise, but there is also a pushback of interest in older generations of Pokémon

Should TPC continue making new Pokémon? Or should they stop and cater to popular interests with the current national Pokédex?

New Pokémon each generation but in lower numbers, less than 100

I think without new generations of Pokémon coming out every few years the brand would grow much slower. New Pokémon regions, games, cards and merchandise feel essential to their business. I think if anything, they could slow down on new releases to take more time to ensure the quality is higher.

I would prefer if they took their time with each new generation, they feel rushed and forced just to keep up with the 3 year cycle they’ve had since the start.

They’ve got plenty of Pokemon, characters and regions to create new games/cards/anime from already.

11 years ago it would’ve been the worlds most obvious yes from me but seeing as every generation since then has been worse than the last, I wonder if the need to come up with 100 new designs every 2-3 years isn’t more of a hindrance than a help. At the same time, if they wanted to make a good game, they could. It would be the easiest thing in the world.

So I guess my answer is more “it doesn’t matter” than “uncertain.”

Im all for making new pokemon. I really wish they would stop adding in new gimmicks though and keep going with what they have. Maybe its not the new pokemon, but the timeframe they release so many at once. I wouldnt mind 100-200 for a new generation, but they need to release a new game/gen every like 3 years, not every year, or so.

No because I’m old and tired and can’t hold them all in my head lol. Yes because Pokémon are cool, and to keep it alive, and for loads of other reasons!

New Pokémon are, in my opinion, the main draw to buying new games. I really can’t think of a “good” reason to stop creating new pokemon. There may be something to be said about having more time between releases and its effect on overall quality of designs. 3 years is the current gap between new gens, but in reality that 3 years isn’t entirely spent on the new game development or pokemon development, but you get the idea. Still though, the quality of designs is entirely subjective, no matter what any gen wunner says.

The plan they had for SWSH was ideal. Each game limit the dex size, bring back the popular ones and rotate in the unpopular ones periodically.

At some point they have to “retire” Pokémon. Some permanently, some temporarily. It’s unsustainable to carry forward 1000+ Pokémon for the rest of time.

Unfortunately the smoothbrains that were thumping about the national dex in SWSH made it difficult to actually follow through with this idea

Keep em coming!

Yes but i wish they would start mixing regions more and have more world building to incorporate reasonable explanations and lore for pokemon.

Definitely yes, cant wait for “over 9000!” to apply to the national dex! (but seriously yes)

Pokemon has made great innovations recently with the regional forms. I wish they would focus on that instead of a new gimmick for every gen, but I have never been disappointed with a new generation’s Pokemon. I feel like especially since Gen 7, the new Pokemon have always been unique and interesting.

I agree with @pfm that the best way to manage this is to rotate which Pokemon are in each game. I also wish that we had more exploration and worldbuilding with the games, recently they’ve just thrown legendaries in and it is random and frankly not exciting. I miss going to unique places to find legendaries like in the older games.

They should have stopped a long time ago, but that’s just because everything after DS era is completely uninteresting to my tastes. Shoutout Talonflame and Corviknight though, Gamefreak still makes some good birds at least.

Yes. I enjoy the new pokemon that comes out with each new generation.

I think they do this because of the restricted formats in VGC more than anything.

I agree tho that they should find better ways of integrating these legendaries into the new region’s world, but perhaps that’s an impossible task due to their unique lore and roles in their original games.

I’m the old man yelling at the clouds that Gen 1 and Gen 2 are the only ones we needed.

Design a pokemon world map at hq.

Start actually regionalising each pokemon so they only pop up in games set in or adjacent to that region.

Limit the new ones to less than 20 per gen.
