Thank you for stopping by to look at my Slow collection!
Like many of us here, I collected Pokemon cards as a kid. One day, many years later, I was going through my old cards and noticed I had five Slowpokes. I thought to myself, “what if I got more Slowpokes?” and the rest is history. It started as one whole binder page of Slowpokes, then a whole binder section, then an additional Slowpoke binder… and it just kept growing! I totally fell in love with this delightful pink creature and evolutions thereof.
My collection scope includes English and Japanese TCG Master Sets, every all-language exclusive artwork, stamp, and holo pattern, and one of each TCG cameo (any language). I also collect non-TCG, but I’m not trying to collect every non-TCG item ever made. I also love error cards, plushies, keychains, and all things Slow.
P.S. The Slowpoke illustration in the banner image is from the Dondon Donkan Yan? series at the Japanese Pokemon Center – check it out, it’s really cute!
Welcome to E4! It’s great to see some representation from species collectors of “less popular” Pokemon! Looking forward to seeing a post of the full binder once you get it all together!
Welcome @slowqueen! My wife is also a lover of the slowpoke line so I really appreciate what you’re putting together here! Can’t wait to see more! Check out @brendantheclayboy and their collection thread when you get a chance! They have an amazing collection of all things slow!
Welcome to e4! I love Slowking as well. It’s one of my favorite Gen 2 Pokemon. I’m so glad to meet another person who appreciates Slowking and the Slow- evolution line.
I thought you might appreciate my goofy Slowking signed by Midori Harada.
A great set of pokemon to collect! I love the Slowpoke line, and your Instagram pictures are a treasure to look at! Especially the one with the Mega Slowbro. It seems like you also collect non-TCG? If so, it’s always awesome to see another non-TCG species collector
Very warm welcome to the forums @slowqueen . Super awesome to see a species collector for a great Pokemon Evo line. I really love Slowpoke as a Pokemon and I am really looking forward to seeing your collection thread get populated by your binder collection. Hope you have an amazing time interacting with others on E4.
To start things off I’d like to share my “Slowly Grails” thus far, these are cards that are particularly special and/or challenging to obtain. I’m currently sending a few of these off for grading so I can have them preserved, authenticated, and catalogued!
Topps First Appearance Slowking Holo
This card is the most insane holofoil I’ve ever seen: Topps First Appearance Slowking. They were released in Topps packs for the Pokemon 2000 Movie, there are 6 different kinds: Lugia, Slowking, Ledyba, Elekid, Hoothoot, and Belossom. I was on the hunt for this Slowking for a long time, until someone on Discord alerted me that there was a Reddit user who had this available for trade. I happily traded some of my modern cards in exchange for this beauty!
I learned about this amazing Saturn holofoil pattern from @Rockets_rares, it’s found primarily on Portuguese HGSS-era cards. Slowking looks like he’s juggling the actual planets and universe here, and I’m completely obsessed. Huge shout out to @Rockets_rares for teaching me about this holofoil pattern, and selling me this card!
This card is very special because it’s the first and only signed card in my collection, and because it was kindly acquired for me by some very wonderful people on Discord. Matthew Sussman is the voice actor for Slowking, and this card was signed recently by him at the London Card Show!
This card was an epic quest to track down. These cards were released in Topps packs promoting the Pokemon 2000 movie. Each card is unique and features a different frame from the film. To find one featuring Slowking, I wound up sending dms to everyone I could find who’d ever posted about or sold one of these cards. I finally found an awesome seller on Mercari who was able to ask around and find me this one. It’s a gem!
The story of your Topps film frame is very neat, and I’m glad you were able to track one down with Slowking in it. The item itself also looks super cool
It wasn’t far from my jaw hitting the floor, as a topps enjoyer this would be a perfect card for species collecting. Looking forward to you sharing more as the thread already looks gorgeous, always a treat to see more species collectors!
