Snapped PSA case for refund on ebay??

came across this and if this is true it has got to be one of the worst thing that a buyer can do!!? :angry:

As horrible as it is, I believe there are people out there that would definitely do this to someone.

I was actually thinking about this earlier and I wondered what would happen if I picked up a PSA 10 that I didn’t believe really was a 10? I know to buy the card and not the grade, but I’m sure it’s possible to end up something different that what you thought it’d be. I feel another thread related to this question recently came up but I can’t find it. As long as the PSA case hasn’t been tampered with or broken, doesn’t PSA guarantee that a graded card meets a minimum standard to the grade it received? Couldn’t the buyer in this auction have reached out to PSA for reassurance as well even though a return through eBay was much easier? What do you do if you pay out for a higher card, can’t return it for some reason, and want to have it reevaluated through PSA?

This is why I help off selling on ebay for so long, and I am anxious about my sales because of scumbags like this who try exploit the system. Surely there are ways to stop this shit happening! I take pictures of my items before and after packing, signed for over 20ÂŁ, check the addresses and country match up for payments. Even them I am just waiting for someone to try claim n received or some other sh**. Really riles me up so excuse the rant!

Wow I really hope this isn’t true! I feel like if someone did this they can’t be a real pokemon fan/collector. Even if they believed a card was not worth the grade why would you destroy a still beautiful card?

I am not 100% sure if this would be true though, did anyone find the original ebay sold listing before it was broken?

The deal was most likely done via social media. There is no record of the sale publicly.

That’s what I originally thought but the seller mentions that they couldn’t prove what the buyer did to ebay. Seems a bit strange.

I’ve dealt with this seller several times, they seem very trustworthy to me.

Buyers are becoming increasingly more scummy with everything they do. It’s a direct result of eBay’s tolerance of buyer misconduct and their policy that no matter what goes on in a sale, it’s always the seller’s fault.

I am the seller of the PSA 10 Zard Gold Star that the idiot snapped on me. I figured I would post and let ppl know what really happened as there seems to be some misconceptions. First of all this deal was indeed done through eBay, not though instagram or any other social media outlet. I am not sure why it wouldn’t show up on eBay sold items, although I have noticed items don’t show up anymore many time after 60 days. The sale happened months ago but I just happened to relist the damaged card here a few days ago. I had this card up for sale for $800 as I did know it was a “soft” PSA 10, which I did mention in the description and showed very good pictures of it. And it def wasn’t like I was asking full retail price or whatever, as well as noting why the it was priced the way it was in the description. So the item was delivered and the buyer messages me and says he does not agree with a grade and wants to return the card. I tried the whole “send it to PSA” thing and got no where and eBay could care less about that as they do not know ANYTHING about TCG’s, grading, anything, I found that out the hard way. Then the buyer must have gotten nervous that they were not going to be able to return it so I am assuming at that point they cracked the case, which did damage the card severely, and then opened a case saying it showed up damaged. I was on the phone with eBay for HOURS many times, stating my case, trying to get them to understand, and understand grading and trading cards etc but got absolutely no where. Even when I showed eBay how the first message they were talking about not agreeing with the grade itself and then the second message saying it showed up damaged, it was as obvious as the Russian Collusion HOAX, seriously. I guess, it also didn’t help 3/5 eBay reps I talked to barely could understand English. After days of this I was about to loose it and I literally just gave up. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had on eBay, by far. This also showed me eBay has gone WAY to far when it comes to covering buyers no matter what. Honestly, I didn’t even realize a seller can’t even leave negative feedback for a buyer until this transaction took place and I went to leave neg feedback. It seems as if a buyer can get away with pretty much anything on eBay nowadays.
I think that’s about it, just wanted to let the people that were interested in this topic know what really happened from the person it happened too. I appreciate the support, it shows a lot. That dude is a black sheep in the Pokemon Community. And for the record, if anyone wants to know the buyers username I am perfectly fine letting people know so you can protect yourselves! …But didn’t know if it would be appropriate to post on here, idc either way! He’s a straight up scammer!

Yea ebay unfortunately offers sellers very little protection. Its one of the reasons why Ebay is subject to class action lawsuits from individuals who have been victims of their policies. Ebay is definitely a risky place to do any business as you have to try and hope everyone has a good nature, which definitely not everyone does

I’m really surprised that eBay didn’t give more weight to the first email the buyer sent where he didn’t mention a damaged case. That is pretty conclusive right there.

Also as awful as it is to say, if a buyer starts complaining about not agreeing with a grade (which is not your fault at all @pokelyfe ), I think this experience and other stories about ebay show that you should offer the buyer an opportunity to return the item in order to avoid scummy buyers from retaliating in someway like they did here

Also an alternative option: You can try and scare a scummy buyer by mentioning contacting a USPS postal inspector of their local branch to come out to their home to inspect said item’s damage. If a potential buyer said the item somehow arrived that way, ask them to show you a picture of the damaged packaging and mention that you will be contacting USPS to see if a postal inspector can observe the package. Also link/attach them a picture of Mail Fraud and respective statute in their state and mention (respectfully of course, as ebay buyers have all the power and sellers next to none unfortunately and while you are tyring to be firm, they can react certain ways as seen here). Sometimes mentioning the law can be enough to scare a potential scammer away

I’ve noticed PSA’s website isn’t 100% accurate just yet. Got this in an auction and I don’t see it on there.

Was the card insured as well? If the buyer said it arrived damaged, maybe getting USPS involved with a claim could have helped identify what was happening. Not sure if it would be easy, but wouldn’t it put more stress on the buyer to prove his claim?

This is just beyond sad that someone would do this. Reading this made me remember the discussion sometime back about wishing a Pokemon only marketplace existed. eBay is now requiring that sellers offer free returns for a seller to achieve top rated plus status, which I’m worried may encourage more returns, but I suppose would help prevent this kind of action if the buyer is a complete creep like in this case apparently.

One strategy I’ve used is ask directly for the manager, someone at a higher level than your standard customer rep, as reps usually have an attitude problem and go from a script that is conservative and lacking any human touch. I had one rep apologize to me once after a 3-way conversation took place and the manager instantly sided with me after I explained the situation. The rep at least had the guts to admit her crappy service after the settlement, so I let that go. but it was frustrating nonetheless because these people seem to lack logic and constantly making calls during my work hour is not something I’d like to avoid. Rant over. And don’t even get me started on paypal, which might be one of the worst companies I’ve ever had to deal with. Serious issues with existing policy and pretty much is only concerned with their money.
