So a bit of an update. A few months ago I had been looking for a new apartment and the opportunity came up to buy a home. I at that point made the decision to sell my cards so I could buy a house.
It wasn’t easy and I was definitely sad selling everything, but I knew I could always build up the collection again. I wanted to take the time to thank all the members and friends on here who were with me since I first joined. This isn’t the end. It’s the start of a new beginning. It’s a big reason why I wasn’t on here as much. Truth be told it made me sad to know I no longer had the cards and was tough for me to see everyone advancing their collections.
But now it’s time to start again. Just a life update and an explanation on why I’ve been MIA.
Thats amazing news, congrats! Hopefully you saved a card or two for emergency repairs, all houses have them. Your presence and interesting topics has been missed and once things calm down for you i hope to see you around more once again.
A collection made of effort funding real life achievements is inspiring to see.
What proportion of your down payment or home value was paid for by selling your collection? I think a lot of folks on e4 have wondered about this with their own collection but either haven’t needed to go down that path yet or refuse to.
So I’ll be transparent. I sold my 5 shadowless psa 9s. Charizard, Chansey, Gyrados, Magneton and Mewtwo. All the money went to down payment, closing cost, inspection and appraisal. I had a little bit left over for an emergency fund. A majority of the money was from charizard. The house was nothing crazy. But I bought it by myself. It was a really tough decision if I’m being honest. But someone mentioned to me I could always rebuy the cards.
Also, I did take a bit of not selling full price on some because I wanted to have the money ready so I could start looking. Charizard I tried my best to get full market value
Amazing! I think you made the right choice for sure. These cards will always be available for you in the future. And who knows, it might be extra special revisiting them down the road, knowing that once upon a time they helped you achieve a huge life milestone.
Thank you! Yes, they’ll always be available. I think I’ll do a set in PSA 8 instead now. Again I’m really thankful to everyone here and all my friends/family at Efour. Everyone here is amazing and I can’t imagine a better community to share Pokémon with
I think this is wonderful news for you! Buying a home is such a huge and important purchase for your future (and also exciting!). It’s probably tough to part with treasured pieces of your collection, but as mentioned they won’t disappear forever if the opportunity arises to buy them in the future.
Congratz! I did the reverse. I only started collecting seriously after I completed my mortgage. Previously, I printed the more expensive cards to display on my shelf. I have been slowly replacing them with real cards now.
