So Pokemon card collecting has brought back so many good memories that it brought out my sports collecting 5th grade self and now I want to get back into sports cards (football, baseball, basketball, hockey).
After shopping pokemon cards for over a year on eBay and local garage sale websites such as craigslist and Facebook sites, I finally found out about troll and toad and then tcgplayer. I prefer tcgplayer and I want to know what suggestions you all might have for buying cards from sites other than eBay. Is there one comparable to tcgplayer?
Secondly, when it comes to pricing, I’ve used troll and toad, eBay sold listings, and tcgplayer and Have never used any kind of beckett. Is there a free card price beckett somewhere out there so I can know how much my cards are worth and how much I should be paying for cards?
Thirdly, I know nothing about sports cards. I own lots of cards from 90s and I just want to learn. Is there a site similar to bulbepedia or a good youtube channel teaching about sports card collecting. I know that, it’s a broad subject. I really want to learn as much as I can about all 4 of those sports.
I think the site COMC is what you’re looking for, I haven’t bought from Troll and Toad before but I think it’s the same idea but for sports (They also have Pokemon). I think you have to buy a lot of cards at once though to make the $3.99 shipping worth it, I’ve bought from there before and from them on eBay and it has been fine. I pretty much only buy off eBay though.
I’ve been getting into sports cards a year now and I’ve just been watching break videos from whatever sets I’m interested in to see what cards are the valuable ones and what each different parallel card is. Just find someone you like that isn’t some hype person doing breaks and you can get an idea of what the cards look like for different sets before you buy. I like the Cardsmiths Breaks people.
As for Beckett, I haven’t used it but heard people say it’s better for older cards pricing and to just use eBay for modern stuff. I just use eBay sold listings if I’m selling something.
I’m only really into recent modern baseball so it’s a lot easier for me to narrow down what I want to find. If you are going to try those four sports it will definitely be a lot harder.
lol I was just about to make a post about the Bowman Ohtani cards. Pretty insane pricing on a guy who has only played a few games, but I guess the international market is at play with him. That red auto 1/5 is at $55,000!
