Hello again all,
So rather than spend my time writing another guide for you all to enjoy, I decided i wanted to share something a little more fun for you all. This time around I wanted to showcase the wonderful artistic talents of my girlfriend (Ashley). She’s been doing stained glass work off and on since she was 13 and puts together some really awesome stuff, I figured I would show you some of the pieces she’s done for me:
Everyone’s favorite
Everyone’s favorite (flying)
Myself if I was geenish blue instead of silver
One half of a twin pair
Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition
She’s done other works as well including a stained glass Mew and Celebi (commission pieces) unfortunately I don’t have pictures of those but I did want to share some of the ones she’s done previously.
The work involved with those pieces is pretty intensive. She makes a sketch (or traces a picture) of each piece she wants to do and then has to cut out those individual glass pieces by hand from existing sheets of glass.
Once’s she’s cut out the pieces she has to make sure they fit together, if they don’t or if she has pieces that are too jagged or “off” she then uses a grinder to grind down individual pieces so they fit completely together.
At that point, she takes copper foil and wraps the edges of each individual piece of glass, smooths the surfaces down and reassembles the final product. From here she takes a a soldering iron and plenty of solder and starts to fuse the pieces together.
In some cases for finer details she actually paints on specific features, and then bakes them in an oven to dry them to the surface of the glass.
After ALL of that is completed she gives the finished piece a few chemical baths, and finishes with a polish. The final results speak for themselves.
I hope you guys enjoy and appreciate the artistry. Feel free to comment!
