Steiff Pokemon collaboration Pikachu

Hand made Steiff mohair Pikachu limited to 1,000. I am curious about what he might be worth now? I couldn’t find any available currently or recent enough past sales on ebay. My family has collected Steiff for years so as soon as I heard about this collaboration I freaked out and had to have one- so I purchased mine for around 450$ at the release date. My husband was actually travelling for work in Japan at the time which was quite serendipitous.

He’s about 12 inches tall.

The history: Since 1880, Steiff has been making plush toys and collectibles that set the world standard for quality. Made from only the finest materials — fabrics such as mohair, alpaca, cotton velvet, and woven fur — each Steiff animal is meticulously hand-sewn and hand-finished by our staff of talented artisans in Giengen, Germany. The company is perhaps best-known for its bears — Steiff invented the Teddy bear in 1902. Since the firm was founded by Margarete Steiff in 1880, more than 16,000 different designs for animals have been created.

Well, you learn something new everyday. I’m familiar with Steiff but never knew they produced a Pokémon character.

What year was it released?

Released 2016, one sold on Dec 2019 for $650USD and another sold at auction for 1200Euro a day ago.

I’ll be holding onto mine for life but it’s cool to check every few years to see how much they go for. Stieff also produced a Godzilla and a few other Japanese exclusives. It seems like the Totoro, though very expensive, is readily available on ebay yet there is not a single Pikachu.

Apparently the Totoro is limited to 1500 and the Godzilla to 1954 (commemorative date and also the number of them produced). So the Pikachu was the smallest batch.

Omg how did I not know about these, my family owns/owned quite a lot of Steiff plushes. :face_with_spiral_eyes: This is the kind of crossover Pokemon needs more of.

If they do another I will definitely buy it. I have about 100 Steiff animals in two display cases and the Pikachu stands out like a sore thumb lol. Everything else is bears, white rabbits, spotted puppies and striped cats.

I’m not really into stuffed animals, but would love to see a picture of your collection. It sounds impressive!

Why was Godzilla limited to 1954? Curious cause that’s my birth year;)

Edit: Just looked on IMDB and it turns out Godzilla the movie and I are the same age:open_mouth::open_mouth::open_mouth::open_mouth:
