Dragonite is one of the most popular character in the Pokémon franchise! Dragonite’s first TCG appearance was in the Fossil set and appeared again as Dark Dragonite in the Team Rocket set.
In the Team Rocket set, the 16 holographic cards in the set also have a non-holo variant with a different set number (not including Dark Raichu).
The video shows an uncut sheet of all the uncommon Team Rocket cards in the set. However, a Dark Dragonite is found sitting in the dead center of the sheet and numbered 5/82. Dark Dragonite being a rare should not exist on that sheet as a non-holo and the 5/82 version specifically should only appear on the holo sheet.
A different sheet surfaced years later, on a 1st edition sheet. It is speculated that the sheets were printed for just a few hours before it was corrected. Another interesting note: both the 1st edition and unlimited sheets were printed and approved on the same day.
Additional information
The non-holo error Dark Dragonite can be found in both 1st edition and unlimited
Thank you! Rusty had presented it in one of his videos showing the sheet, the card and everything! I sometimes wonder if that was intentional by wotc (like a easter egg) or truly a accident.
I have one ungraded in NM/M condition. Bought it for like 5 bucks too! I’ll get it graded soon. It’s definitely an 8-9 range. Awesome to see this story!
It looks like Dark Dragonite took the place of dark Vaporeon based on the sheet arrangement. Reminds me of my greyscale Poke’ball error card… One in the same in terms of rarity in my opinion, considering the errors both occurred during sheet collation
This is the REAL question indeed. Are there any video on pulling the error dragonite? And since Team rocket packs r still in circulation, how many have not been pulled?
It’s just a normal card that was printed with two images of the reverse, black and white on the front. It’s not technically a grey scale image but that sounds better
