I was browsing Mercari and noticed an authentic Emerald (cartridge only) sold for $44 shipping and all. I thought this was odd but checked Ebay and there are several copies with bids over $40 and the cheapest BINs are hovering around $46-50 after shipping.
I remember purchasing my emerald version early last year for $22 free shipping and recent sales on Ebay show $25-30 range in the month of May. Did I miss something?
I sell old pokemon games and I can say that Pokemon Emerald is one of the most popular ones, thus it sells much better.
Pokemon Emerald is much more popular than Ruby/Saphire and I sell it for roughly 40% more than these other two.
Yeah I’ve seen it be worth more in general throughout the past (the same way crystal and yellow are when compared to their counterparts) but it just seems like it suddenly jumped 60-70% over the span of two months with no justification.
With a major move in the market like this we would expect to see some sort of reasoning like the announcement of an emerald remake to spark nostalgia or we would see this move go across the board with all of the old games. Emerald seems to be the only one with the increase, however.
It has seemed to me that over the last several years there hasn’t really been any movement with the games unless they’re sealed or CIB. I’m wondering if the rubberband theory is taking place and the market is suddenly adjusting where it hasn’t moved in the last few years. And if that is the case should we expect the other games to increase as well?
