Hi guys, I recently got into collecting nicer cards and i’ve never PSA graded before. I picked up a Masaki Golem and Machamp from Yahoo Japan and took a bit of a gamble on the condition and overall i’m pretty happy with them. However, they have a fair amount of surface scratches and very light indentations (doesn’t pick up photos very well sorry (if the photos even work, bit confused on how to upload)), how heavily would this affect their grades? as i’m considering sending them off.
Welcome to the forum! Too bad to hear about the minor defects. In the pictures they seem to be in great quality apart from a bit of silvering.
You’ll have to use the links ending with .jpg/.png/etc. So for the two images of the front in your second post, the links would be i.ibb.co/FJFJsC7/20191110-224554.jpg and i.ibb.co/B4xg14W/20191110-224649.jpg (right click → copy image address on the picture in the links you’re currently using):
Cards look really nice in the pictures! Unfortunately this is the standard for the masaki cards… look great in pictures, but defects seen in person. The minor indents are very common because these cards were shipped in envelopes with the corners under a lip to keep from moving too much. This resulted in many corner dents. The only ways to get a high grade is to literally buy one already graded since the cost of buying raw and then grading is simply not cost effective and usually results in small defects as you describe.
Your cards are guaranteed to grade 5-6 for any minor indent, not to mention the minor silvering and possible scratches. They are probably worth more raw ungraded for this reason. Beautiful binder cards though!
@joer,
Cheers for the analysis, surprisingly enough, these cards don’t seem to have the indents from the envelopes. I think i read in the translation on Buyee that he had owned the cards since they were first released so they musnt have been stored in the original packaging which is great, but on the flip side, since they weren’t kept sealed(and probably owned by a kid), i don’t think they were kept in a sleeve. So i still think you’re judgement is definitely valid and much appreciated!
