Suspicious Ebay/Mercari Postings

3 separate Ebay listings of the exact same card from a Mercari post

Is this pretty typical for Ebay sellers to duplicate a Mercari post and just buy it once their Ebay listing sells? Curious as to people’s thoughs

This is what seems to be the actual legit posting (other items for sale with same background, higher feedback)

Yes, this is very common. Many Japanese eBay.com sellers are dropshippers.

As @Dyl said, this is dropshipping, the eBay seller puts the item up for sale for more than the Mercari price, but he doesn’t own the item, and once someone buys the item from him, he buys it on Mercari to make a profit.

Ya there are several others that I’ve seen as well. There was another person trying to sell a couple of raw crystals with that ereader Blastoise and Venusaur promo. Just like what they said above, dropshippers :face_vomiting:

The problem I’ve had in the past is deciding between the cheapest dropshipper with dodgy feedback or the more expensive dropshipper with the superior feedback

There are also several sellers on Yahoo auctions itself which act as drop shippers or middleman to products which are listed on Mercari JP. Usually they tend to have a buyout price associated with the YJP auction listing and If you look carefully you can find the same listing on Mercari or other Japanese sites. This is seperate from the same seller posting listings on multiple platforms to maximize sale.

Cheers!

Lmfao , the duality of man

We need to go deeper. Imagine buying from an Ebay dropshipper, whose buying from a Yahoo Auction dropshipper, whose buying from a Mercari seller.

People really go through all that effort for what…? $50-$100 if all goes to plan?

whats stopping someone from buying the mercari listing and then buying the ebay, Wouldn’t the dropshipper have nothing to ship?

Yes, that happens all the time. Dropshippers are chronically canceling orders because someone bought the original listing.

As a seller on Mercari, one of my main interests is to find eBay dropshippers attempting to dropship my item, raise my original listing’s price to higher than their dropship price and buy out their listings.

What caught my attention was that is that really the price fan club gyarados is being sold, i had impression it would be a lot more expensive! Might have to add it in my wants at some point in future

I’ve lost the screenshot and the eBay link doesn’t work anymore, but in 2021 I found an eBay dropshipper of a Yahoo listing, which was itself a dropship of one of @smpratte’s eBay listings. That cracked me up.

I think you can find decent copies under 700USD if you keep your eyes peeled. Most of the ebay listing I see are quite inflated pricing and they aren’t selling too frequently

I’m more into that ~400$ mercari listing, still would be a big big purchase for me but a lot less than i though they are going
