Hey collectors and experts, I stumbled upon this article today. Is this a North American / European release for the best of XY set that was previously exclusively a Japanese Release? Meaning these cards will be printed in English?
What will it mean for sealed product of the Japanese set? They will surely depreciate in value right?
Thank you,
Phil.
Yep, it’s an English release of the full art cards that were new in Best of XY. The entire set won’t be released as it was a set focused on the Japanese TCG Standard format. Almost every set-based Japanese card is eventually released in English so I don’t see how this would lead to a depreciation in value for the Japanese set.
With 1-for-1 artwork available in English, it’s hard to imagine the Japanese copies fetching any sort of long term premium. Japanese sets definitely struggle on the secondary market relative to English singles unless they have unique artwork.
Additionally, you’re going to be able to get the entire set of all the best artworks in English for a little more than a single box of the Japanese Best of XY.
I definitely believe this has a good chance of negatively impacting long term values for the Japanese Best of XY. Playability is cool and relevant for a short while but I am not convinced it’s the driving force. Obviously short run values are different, though. It won’t tank overnight.
It would take something seriously wrong with the English cards for them to NOT appreciate faster IMO.
As someone with 1 boxy box from the recent reprint, I’m in the “Huge hit on long term growth” camp due to this product. That said, a specialty product in english is why I didn’t buy any when the set had originally released… There’s always a chance it happens and in this case it did. Everything that comes out these days seems very risky compared to WOTC stuff… But i guess that’s kind of obvious almost everyone has been saying that for awhile now.
Saying this will negatively impact BoXY is very short sighted and doesn’t take into consideration what the set is actually doing.
BoXY, like CP4 Premium Champion, is being opened for the playable cards. That’s why a box of CP4 is now $150+.
The fact that the English version of these cards are practically being given away will mean they will be worth less in the future, where as the BoXY set should see little drops if anything.
its fun to fly off the wire sometimes its more exciting heh. We can only wait and see what they do with the release of these cards…the art work alone made them collectable…without playability…alot prefer the english cards so same artwork in english will be very desirable. Even if they are given away it is the artwork we collectors want so I can see it having some form of knock on effect on the Japanese FA’s.
right I now have 2 hands and not one holding a honey mustard pork and lettuce wrap…mmm…
Depending on how they release these I do think it will have a negative effect on the japanese singles. From what I read it is just 14 full art cards, the boxy fa cards were the reason alot of people bought the boxes, along with the set having highly playable cards for the Japanese players. We can speculate until November, but the proof will be in the pudding come the release. We will have to wait and see
Unless you payed bank for the sealed boxy sealed products I cant see there being a hughe negative on them because they are a great set, it is a sealed box…soo yea! The single FA cards on the other hand…I can see it effecting but we will see. Depends on the quality and execution of the release imo…TPC seem to be pro’s at cocking up .
