The 'Charizard' of each generation

I know nothing has ever had the same popularity as charizard but thought it would be fun to discuss whats seen as THE card/pokemon from each generation. I stopped collecting after neo as a kid, and my knowledge is quite limited past that. Would be interesting to hear what are people’s thoughts and opinions, especially those who collected throughout each gen.

Here would be my attempt at compiling a list:

Gen 1- Charizard
Gen 2- Lugia (some would argue T17, but for me I’d say lugia was the chase card as a kid)
Gen 3- Rayquaza
Gen 4- not sure, I’d assume Garchomp/Palkia or Dialga
Gen 5- again not sure, maybe Reshiram?
Gen 6- Yvetal, or maybe greninja?
Gen 7- No idea
Gen 8- Dragapult or Eternatus

Gen 4 I notice more lucario cards being worth something when compared to palkia and the rest. Also I feel like he got the most publicity out of any Pokémon in gen 4.

Then again, I didn’t really watch any movies except Lucario’s for that generation, nor did I partake in anything besides the games from ruby sapphire onward, so who I am to really offer something viable haha!

Either way, that’s my 2 cents.

In terms of Generation I think people always like to chase after the Legendaries (although not everyone)

In terms of the TCG, the answer is just Charizard. Nearly every set has one and its always popular. a modern set isn’t complete until they add a new Zard lol.

Interesting didn’t think of lucario, but makes sense. yeah I’m the same as you, my knowledge after gen 3 isn’t that great at all lol

Yeah, I guess in terms of the tcg I meant the base set of each generation, and the standout pokemon of each gen, otherwise your right, when charizard is involved, he gets all the attention lol.

Gen 2- 1st Ed Neo Lugia/1st Ed Neo Shining Charizard
Gen 3- Gold Star Rayquaza/Gold Star Charizard
Gen 4- Stormfront Charizard?
Gen 5- Plasma Storm Charizard
Gen 6- Evolutions Prerelease Staff Charizard
Gen 7- Hidden Fates Shining Charizard
Gen 8- Champion’s Path Rainbow Charizard

The first 3 gens are obvious: Charizard, Lugia & Rayquaza. The other gens I’m not sure if they even have Pokemons similar to these?

When looking at cards the list of Assasin is pretty much on point I think!

Edit: for gen 4 & 6 I could see Lucario & Greninja being the main Pokeys

The hottest card of the black and white era was tropical beach. FA Darkrai and Mewtwo EX get an honorable mention
