I’ve been thinking about this for a bit…lots of people call themselves ‘Pokemon Masters’ but in the series that was supposed to be an almost-impossible goal. What would be an appropriate list of difficult, but accessible challenges for a Pokemon fan to complete in order to become a ‘Pokemon Master?’
Ideally these would encompass all aspects of the hobby, from TCG to the Video Games and more. Just a start:
Grade 1 Pokemon Master
Win 10 Standard Tournaments on the Pokemon TCG Online.
Attain a rank of 1400 on a main-tier Pokemon Showdown ladder.
Obtain a card from pre-2010 in a ‘PSA 10 Gem Mint’ grade.
Reach level 30 in Pokemon GO.
Beat the Elite Four and Champion in three main-series Pokemon games.
Grade 2 Pokemon Master
- Win a Pokemon TCG League Cup.
- Attain a rank of 1600 on a main-tier Pokemon Showdown ladder.
- Obtain 5 cards from the Base Set in ‘PSA 10 Gem Mint.’
- Reach level 35 in Pokemon GO.
- Beat the Elite Four and Champion in six main-series Pokemon games.
Ultimate Pokemon Master
- Receive an invite to the Pokemon World Championships in either TCG or VGC.
- Reach top 10 on a main-tier Pokemon Showdown ladder.
- Obtain 40 pre-2010 ultra rare or Gen1/2 holo cards in ‘PSA 10 Gem Mint.’
- Reach Level 40 in Pokemon GO.
- Beat the Elite Four and Champion in all main-series Pokemon games, using the ‘nuzlocke run’ style.
Any other challenges you would like to see added? Too difficult? Too easy? What do you think?
I don’t think enough people go to tournament events, that grade 2 challenge would be tough for a good amount of people.
I think completing pokedex in the main games would be a good addition to the beating elite four, true pokemon master.
Complete irl trades of TCG cards with others?
For instance, Gary would be the TCG opening Master of all time hands down, but he would get wiped in current tournament play standards haha. There has to be someone in the world that has every category nailed down to the top level.
The aim is to create something that challenges but is accessible to all Pokemon fans, so I don’t think something on collection value would work. I also thought it could be designed to get people to branch out among the Pokemon hobby.
Completing the Pokedex is a great challenge. Certainly should be added!
