Things to do in Hokkaido?

By liking Pokemon, a lot of us also like Japan/Japanese things or have travelled to Japan.
I’m trying to visit Hokkaido to escape just doing the Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka loop, and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on things to do in Hokkaido?

I’ll be there in mid-May to early June.

Their nature is beautiful in the summer time, they’re also known for their ramen, and the overall food quality is better.

Visit hakodate and eat all the seafood you can, if you’re going to rent a car, head to some of their national parks. Sapporo itself is only worth maybe 2 or 3 days, there’s not much to do other than explore the natural beauty. If you want to experience some of the best onsens in Japan, head to Noboribetsu.

Got my stuff organized!

We stayed in Sapporo for a couple days, recommendations are:

  1. Makomani Takino Cemetery. Yes, a cemetery. It’s has a giant buddha, a skate park, easter island heads, it was an experience. We took a bus up there, wasn’t too bad. I don’t think the busses ran very long, so double check the schedule just in case.
  2. Mount Moiwa. It was beautiful, Took a ropeway to get up there, and stayed for sunset.
  3. Went to in the Sapporo TV Tower, you can buy an ear of corn magnet with a bear face on it
  4. There’s a small pokemon center there, nothing crazy but stopped by
  5. There’s a 4 story Book-off where I bought many pokemon cards:

1 Chome-3 Minami 2 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0062, Japan

Forgot a couple things, Sapporo Beer Museum and had the best ramen of my life at Sapporo Ramen Haruka

Japan, 〒064-0805 Hokkaido, Sapporo, Chuo Ward, Minami 5 Jonishi, 3 Chome, 元祖さっぽろラーメン横丁

Is there any particular nature spot you recommend? We definitely plan on renting a car to try and see as much nature as possible. So far I’ve read about Lake Toya and there’s a bunch of ropeways?

Thanks Will <3

Always gotta stop by the pokemon card shops

When I was an exchange student in Hokkaido I enjoyed some time at Farm Tomita which is a super beautiful flower and lavender farm in Nakafurano. Lots of fresh produce and beautiful scenery.

If you can make it there i definitely recommend it!

Lake Toya is fun - there’s lot of stuff to do naturewise in hokkaido, but if its your first time in japan, you probably want to explore more of japan than spend more time in hokkaido.

In hokkaido: Kushiro Shitsugen National Park is pretty great, but it’s very big. Mt. Asahi-dake is great, but a pain to get to. Honestly, the mountains and parks by hakodate, like Hokkaido Koma-ga-take, are awesome and convenient.
