Things you find cool in pokemon

Lets hear it.

I doubt that there is a completed psa 10 1st edition dragon frontiers ex set in existence. I know of a couple unlimited ex sets. I know that there is at least one completed wcp unlimited psa 10 ex set. I think that both sets are so cool for difficulty to complete in the gem mint grade (even the mint grade is difficult for both). They both contain a salamence ex too which is extra sweet (and rn a bit painful) for me too! Bonus points

You can put 100 pokemon card collectors in a room and they could all collect entirely different things. That’s cool.

I always thought things that broke the mold when we started collecting from base set and onward were cool.

I remember being mind blow that Haunter from fossil was not only rare but holo! It was crazy to have an evolution path where the typically uncommon card was bumped up one level.

Making the connection to ho-oh from the first episode of pokemon was a key moment as well

I love how even after almost 30 years there is still new things to see every day.

It’s cool when, after all these years in collecting, you still encounter cards that you’ve never seen! Beautiful.

Bonus points if it’s cheap too!

Uncut ex sheets would be mind blowing cool

I find it cool that certain sought after cards may never have PSA 10 copy. The most obvious example of this is prerelease Clefable. Just the thought that no matter how hard people look, there is just a very good chance a truly mint copy doesn’t exist… Cool

I always love meeting up with other E4 members at in-person events. There seems to be a magic there that is just lacking in so many other facets of life. Everyone is instantly friends, no matter if you just met them that day or have known them for years. I think it’s so cool that we have built that kind of community here.

I felt that energy in the Goldin watch party tonight. Feeling very lucky to have found this community.

The amount of non-tcg merch there is is mindblowing. We are still finding things we hadn’t even seen that are 10 or even 20+ years old!

Also, that there is such a huge catalogue of excellent and deep artwork to collect for practically $nothin’.

I find it cool that pokemon card art is so awesome, it makes me actually like newer pokemon whose design I otherwise hated.

Missingno. Still waiting for a hyper rare, set included card.

Don’t forgot about Arbok and Muk (sorry) backwards as well.

These I agree with as well, mostly for the TCG side. I’ve been collecting nine years now, and in certain aspects can be considered an expert by now. But even I come across new TCG cards every now and then, even those that are decades old by now, which is both amazing and mind-blowing. (Unironically even today, apparently - non-Jumbo Doug Ferguson GX)

As for Devin’s comment about non-TCG, that’s a rabbit hole of its own. But I’m having a lot of fun collecting all the unique non-TCG Seviper items out there, and indeed come across new items I wasn’t even aware of existing every few days/weeks, while looking for other stuff I am aware of but haven’t found (yet).

Countrary to popular belief (unless you already know, I guess), Generation 2 of the main games is actually where you have the easiest methods of obtaining a Shiny Pokémon.

Pokémon Gold and Silver: Odds as low as 1/64.

Method: Breeding with a 100% guaranteed to be shiny Gen 1 Ditto.

  1. Catch the Shiny Gyarados at the Lake of Rage in Gen 2.
  2. Trade said Gyarados from Gen 2 to Gen1 and teach it Mimic using TM 31.
  3. Find a wild Ditto and have Gyarados use Mimic on Ditto’s Transform.
  4. Ditto will use Transform on Gyarados. (this NEEDS to happen twice)
  5. Have Gyarados use Transform on Ditto.
  6. Catch that Ditto!
  7. Trade said Ditto back to Gen2.

It will be a shiny Ditto and due to it being genderless have a 1/64 chance of spawning Shinies!

Pokémon Crystal: Odds as low as 1/2.

Method: Odd Egg

This simply uses the inherent absurdly high Shiny odds of this ingame item. Pokémon hatched from the Odd Egg only have two possible sets of IVs; either 2/10/10/10 (Shiny) or 0/0/0/0 (non-Shiny).

In the international version, you will have a 14% chance of obtaining the aforementioned Shiny IVs (2/10/10/10) and thus 86% chance of the non-Shiny IVs (0/0/0/0) whereas in the Japanese version it’s an even 50/50 split.

Both methods work on Virtual Console if anyone wants to try and doesn’t have OG hardware.

And that’s kind of cool imo.

How are you supposed to do it twice? When Ditto transforms will it have mimic or transform from Gyarados’ moveset? So after you mimic transform do you just wait until it uses transform a second time and then you use your own transform?

I’m glad you brought this method up, it brought back a great memory!

I used this Shiny Gyarados/Ditto trick to get my Shiny Ditto in Crystal VC. I used this then to breed a Shiny Scyther specifically as I was going to hunt for Shiny Celebi. The plan was to NOT use a Masterball (lmao) so I had this Scyther have the move set; False Swipes, Double Team, Swords Dance and Agility.

I named her CelebiHunt and the hunt began. Fast forward on and off for I think almost 2 years.

As for the Odd Egg, I also used this method but had to keep on soft resetting as I wanted to get the rarest and lowest % chance shiny hatch. Which is the Shiny Pichu at 1% tied with Shiny Tyrogue.

Absolutely love the GameBoy symbol these Pokemon get when you transfer them, that’s my contribution to what I find cool!

They feel like they were made with me in mind, they’ve felt like that for 20 years. Everything about them is special and perfect.
