Hello! Welcome to the Coughin Crew!
This thread is here to document my Koffing, Weezing, and Galarian Weezing (KWGW) collection. This first post will contain much of what I have acquired since starting to heavily collect KWGW over the last few years. My earliest memories of KWGW are of the anime and Koffing’s iconic cry! It is almost addicting to say. I later used KWGW on various teams and have many fond memories of the Pokemon. There was also that Koffing found during Chuggaaconroy’s Crystal playthrough. It helped inspire my efour profile pic. Anyways, I love the designs and am glad to see KWGW still get cards after all these years.
Before going into the gas, I have first outlined some of my general goals with the collection.
Most Important
- Collect all English KWGW set cards and promos.
- Collect all English KWGW tcg cameos.
- Collect any Japanese exclusive KWGW cards and tcg cameos (or other language exclusives).
Medium Importance
- Collect all Japanese KWGW set cards and promos.
- Collect all Japanese KWGW tcg cameos.
Less Important
- Collect Pokemon tcg product cameos - Theres surprisingly a lot… (booster box cameos, blisters, deck boxes, etc.)
- Collect non English/Japanese KWGW for various arts (base set Koffing for example)
- Collect non-tcg KWGW cards, cameos, post cards, stickers, plush, etc. (I have no real goal here other than just to generally collect anything that catches my eye)
- Neat and affordable errors, misprints, and oddities
Not Collecting
- Prototypes, FPOs, test sheet cards, NFC and other similar “cards” and errors. I am not opposed to collecting them, it’s just that they fall outside my main goals with this collection. They are all almost always far too expensive for my current tastes.
- Cards that break the bank of THSiGMA. I would love a Snap Koffing or the many stamped versions of Champion’s Festival 2022 (Galarian Weezing cameo), but I simply do not have the funds or motivation to go that path. Maybe one day
- Non English/Japanese cards. Some exceptions apply

Binder Pages
Alright! Now onto the actual cards! I have most of my collection inside a binder. As I complete pages I will share more and more of the binder. At the moment though, it is quite empty.
These first two pages are my current favorite of the binder. This is 12 copies of unlimited Dark Weezing (holo) from Team Rocket on both English/Japanese. It is one of my favorite arts (shocker I know!) and I love having a full page of each.
There are quite a few gaps with cards still needing to be purchased, sleeved, cataloged, and then put into the binder. You can sorta see some of my logic in how I organized the collection, with paired releases (reverse + holo, non holo + reverse, 1st ed/unlim, etc.) grouped together. I have all the English and Japanese cards in their own sections, with the cameos being grouped together. When trying to organize the species binder, I decided on a mixture of arts from throughout the tcg. I think this helps keep each page interesting and gives me a bit of leeway in how I sort each page. It also helps me keep track of what KWGW I have added.

The Collection
As binder pages become full, I plan to share them. In the meantime though, I have taken pictures of some of my favorite KWGW cards and things to share below! Keep in mind this isn’t everything I own that’s KWGW, just some of my favorites
Koffings
First off we have the classic Base Set quartet. I have a semi official goal of collecting all the base set variants, but I haven’t made too much progress yet. I’ve also got the no rarity and unlimited Chinese! Fun fact courtesy of @smpratte, the 1st ed/shadowless Koffing arts are actually centered differently than the others (in addition to differing color contrast). You can see the entirety of Koffing in these two versions, while the bottom is cut off in the others, even with no rarity and Evolutions. In case you were curious, the Base Set Koffing art is the most used Koffing art in the tcg. Cool huh?!
Here are some other Koffings I enjoy. I would have to say my “favorite” (I don’t have a strong one) is likely the first pic in the gallery, the Fates Collide Koffing #27/124. I am also quite a fan of Koga’s Koffing #79/132. There are actually multiple Koffings in the art, which I didn’t notice until going through this species collecting journey. The Koga’s Koffing is the only Koffing I have graded as well
Weezings
Now onto Weezing! Weezing has, in my opinion, the most “good” arts of the three pokemon. I especially love the its Vending Series art (along with Koffing’s). Other than Dark Weezing from Team Rocket, some of my other favorites include the other Dark Weezing from TRR, the Plasma versions (holo, reverse, non holo), the Expedition art, the VS Weezing, and the 151 art. Believe it or not, Weezing (and Galarian Weezing) have both never had an ultra rare card. No ex, lv x., EX, ex 2.0, Vmax, Vstar, etc. Quite a shame!
Here are some of my favorite pairs as well. What I found interesting is that the Baba Koffing actually showed up years later in the Diamond and Pearl era, despite Baba having done a Weezing way back in Delta Species. There are some more pairs, but I am missing some pieces
Galarian Weezings
A lot of people have asked what I think about Galarian Weezing. The truth is…I love em all! I think Gweezing’s design is superb and it was one of the MVPs of my Sword playthrough. The typing is good and it has seen some competitive usage as well, which is a nice plus. I have also used regular Weezing before in prior playthroughs of various pokemon games. I hope that we see more KWGW like pokemon in the future. One of my all time favorite KWGW arts is the beautiful Gweezing done by Arita. Here it is in all its glory. I wish Gweezing had more cards. Unfortunately, I think it is too tied to gen 8 to be seen much more in the future.
Cameos
There are a surprising amount of KWGW cameos. Most are either concentrated in the WOTC era or SWSH (thank you Gweezing for that!). Weezing and Koffing have both been featured on some very expensive and rare booster boxes and packs from throughout the years. There is a Weezing sillhouette on Japanese Team Rocket Returns boxes and packs btw
Anyways, back to the cards. The most expensive cameo (at least as of the time writing this) is the Galarian Weezing featured on the 2022 Champion’s Festival promo (given out at Worlds London 2022). There are multiple languages and varying levels of placement stamps. For sanity sake, I purchased a German copy to have the art done. I plan to get at least the basic stamped English/Japanese at a later date like I have done with the German one.
Here are some of my favorite cameos. Many from the SWSH era feature Gweezing as Gweezing was on the main Jubilife Village building in Legends Arceus, of which was a focus in a few sets. My favorite cameo is Transparent Walls (Weezing). I just love the art!
Non-TCG
Non-Tcg is its own beast. Because Koffing and Weezing are gen one Pokémon, they immediately gain access to dozens and dozens and dozens of non-tcg cards, stickers, and all sorts of things. Some are pretty…suspicious. Anyways, I enjoy the huge variety these have to offer. Non-tcg is endless fun.
Miscellaneous Product Cameos, Errors, & Variants
There are quite a few TCG related product cameos for KWGW. Here are all the ones I currently have. For the theme decks, I am just wanting the empty box. I may buy the sealed versions down the line. The 151 costco box has a sealed Weezing cameo mini tin inside.
I have posted about the error Dark Weezing below. I’ll link to that post, but the tldr is that there is an ink layer shift. You can see it better on the blurry energies and along the border of the card (look for the blue lines).
I noticed this printing difference between two of my ex Deoxys reverse Weezings. I assume this is a US vs EU printing thing, but wasn’t sure. You can see one is more “purply” than the other. The official Koffing and Weezing arts have had varying shades of purple over the years. Weezing is generally closer to the right in terms of color, with Koffing being almost blue at times. No two cards have the same colors in general though.

End
And as of 1/4/2025, that is the collection! I hope you all enjoyed reading through. I will post updates here and there. I have some other side species collections and general collections that I may bring forth into the light some day as well
Thanks for reading!
