To cross or not to cross (CGC Pristine to PSA 10)

I normally never like asking questions like this but it might impact my plans for the national next week. Should I try and cross my Lugia Neo 1st for a PSA 10 or keep it a CGC Pristine 10?

I wasn’t collecting when CGC trading cards became a thing so I have no attachment to the company really, but I also don’t plan to sell it so resale value isn’t thee priority either. I guess I’m just asking if anyone thinks it would be crazy to do it (or not to?). The only thing that makes me hesitant is the low pop with CGC. And my main reason for wanting PSA is that any of the other high value Lugia I plan to acquire next will be PSA.

BGS is out of the question due to the 9.5 max. And obviously this is all hypothetically assuming crossing would be successful.

Crossover service or crack and submit?

If the former, sure - why not? If the latter, no.

Crossover only. If I was going to crack and submit then BGS wouldn’t be much of an issue. I’ve had pretty good success crossing over when the grade is the same. Never otherwise.

But I’m more so asking if there is any reason why not. Is there anyone outside of brand loyalists that would prefer a pop 3 CGC over a pop 45 or whatever but with PSA?

Keep as is til the market appreciates the quality difference. Might take about 3 months before it’s double a psa 10 if you can wait that long.

If no plan to re-sell I’d probably just keep it as CGC. The slab clarity is great and I’m sure it looks great in that slab. PSA 10 will maximize re-sale value, unless perception with CGC or PSA changes at some point (seems unlikely).

But is that a realistic scenario? As is the 10 with newer certs has still been going for 1.5-2x the CGC 10.

I can’t imagine a CGC pristine is going to appreciate that much.

The slab is actually scratched to hell. Deep ones you can’t polish out that cause shadows even. which is why I was either going to relabel at national or try and cross it. To get it to PSA I can do that in one day but to relabel I will either need to make a long road trip day prior to drop it off on like Thursday and come back (4 hour drive one way). That or just drop off and have them ship back in a month.

No, not likely. This only really exists with BGS Black Labels.

I’m bored with being right all the time so wanted something wrong on the record.
Keep as cgc 10 pristine and relabel. You have all the time in the world to get a psa 10 if needed but you’ll find it very hard to reverse it if you do.

You might be able to fix it with this product or something similar:

That’s actually what I tried. But either way it doesn’t make the label not blue. Which is a must.

For my collection I’d prefer in this order. Bgs Black Label, Cgc Pristine, Bgs pristine, Psa 10, Cgc 10.

I mean that applies to me as well im general, but usually for value reasons. In this case the CGC Pristine isn’t worth more.

If you are going to sell v v soon go for the psa 10. If not keep as is. I have 3 pristine 10 3rd print fossil cards and value them higher than my psa 10s even if I can’t get more money for them.

Which subgrade got the 9.5? Surface? When you send cards for review PSA is extremely strict because they don’t want to deal with the risk of cracking and reslabbing.

If you do want to cross I suggest cracking it yourself beforehand. But that’s again a risk they it could get PSA 9 or no grade if you put min 10.

Personally I would not cross it unless a potential buyer insists on it. You can explain to them you are open to cross grading but would prefer not to unless requested.

If it was me I would try to cross grade to psa with it in the cgc slab. Psa will be at nationals so at least you can have a same day result which only happens once a year with psa.

If it doesn’t cross and you get the card back in the cgc slab then go about taking the next steps to get it recased by cgc and it will have the new label etc

I’m not selling it period. But this would be done at the national next weekend. I’m not sending anything anywhere.

You’re not wrong, but one of the 6 cert ones that got graded in like the fall of last year was also a CGC 10 they crossed over. With the 9.5 in surface like all of them. Would make zero sense to crack it. They aren’t any less strict on this card raw.

I think I might just flip a coin on my way to Chicago and report back lol

I’m also in favor of not mailing that card. In person for whatever you choose to do. Best of luck

Yeah I think I’m going to just relabel. But that means I have to actually make the 4 hour drive there and back on like Thursday to drop it off because then I’m going there on Saturday with my wife and daughter. Otherwise they won’t have it done by end of show and will have to ship it back to me which can be 2-3 weeks and defeats the purpose.
