I’ve been in the habit of using Perfect Fits for all of my cards - in competitive play and in my collection binders. I just watched smpratte’s most recent Neo Revelations binder vid and there were no Perfect Fits in sight. The doubts began to creep in…
Are Perfect Fits frowned upon in the collecting community? Is it better to simply penny sleeve? Just wanted to get some thoughts on Perfect Fits as a product in general.
I use perfect fit because I double sleeve my cards to put into binders. It is probably overkill, but I prefer them. However, you have to be careful when sleeving because the perfect fits can easily nick/chip the corners.
I gave Perfect Fit a try and didn’t like it. I found it too easy to cause damage when trying to remove the card from the sleeve. Too tight, not worth the risk.
After trying a few, I decided on the Ultra Pro Premium Soft Sleeves. Perfect size and high quality.
I imagine people double sleeve so the card is not exposed to open air or dust. When you put one of the Ultra Pro Premiums into a side loading binder, it accomplishes the same thing.
I tried perfect fit for a while and I didn’t like them. They have the potential to squeeze the card too tight, warp the card, or even nick a corner. Your cards are perfectly safe in penny sleeves and either card savers or high quality top loaders.
Penny sleeves or no sleeves are the best for binders. I’ve tried every option, and perfect fits can subtly warp cards. I had some in long term storage, mostly wotc, and some were warped.
Also perfect fit are a pain to remove from the card.
I perfect fit to double sleeve my cards. I’ve never had any issues handling cards or switching sleeves. Then again, I have small hands, so use your own discretion.
I say, if you’re going for a Binder collection, double sleeve. Otherwise, Ultra Pro, Katana, and Dragonshield all make quality sleeves to help protect your collection.
And if you’re going graded, penny sleeves in a card saver seems to be the majority preference.
I’ll make this one comment in regards to “handling difficulty” for Pro-fit sleeves.
I think it’s all about how you handle the card and getting used to it. Similar in the instance that for the life of me I don’t know why anyone seems to be okay with Card Savers when they warp weirdly when inserting cards or aren’t terrified that the thing’s going to snap shut at any given moment while you’re pile-driving your card just to get inside or scrape it against a ruler. XD But I know people who have used them for years and have familiarized themselves with how to place cards inside them safely and with ease.
Maybe I’ll do a video on how to handle Perfect Fit sleeves and how to put them in/take them out. I’ve been using them for a little over 5 years now and haven’t noticed any warping so I wonder if this is more to do with heat regulation (which would cause shrinkage) versus a problem with the sleeves themselves.
@azulryu, I always insert a common card into the cardsaver first and push it down into the corners to open it up (and then I take it out). that way the good card slides in without any resistance.
As for perfect fit sleeves, I can put the cards in just fine, but after about a year when I took them out of my binder, it looked as if the sleeves had tightened even more around the cards. My binder is stored in a cool climate, so I doubt it was heat, so I’m not sure what could have caused that.
I just have binder collections so I use perfect fit, I like how there is no slack. The tightness does make me nervous though, if I had super valuable minty cards I would probably use something looser to avoid damage when inserting/removing them from the sleeves
I would love to see this. I handle cards almost surgically - washing my hands prior to opening packs, drying them, no “card trick” to avoid surface scratches - so I feel like I know how, but I could very well be wrong.
For the record, I use Dragon Shield Perfect Fits and sleeves when storing my cards. I like being able to take the card out of the binder to show it off or to closely examine them myself without worrying about dust getting inside. (Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this at all? Lol)
I will only recomend perfect fits if you want to put the card inside an ultra pro one touch magnetic case, because the room inside the case is the same size of a perfect fit sleeve, and a normal sleeve just wont fit. If that it’s not the case just go for a regular sleeve. Perfect fits are tight and you may damage the card while trying to put it into one, or taking it out. Also this is just a guess but there may be some edge damage due to the pressure of the sleeve, even tho this is just a guess of mine it may be possible.
Thank you for this conversation and correlation of insight as I’m refining my sleeves within the collection on that fat loss game. So I’ll now reassess them in my collection, the fun never ends as this thread has become something I wasn’t sure I needed until mutual agreement before about to ask another related query. Seriously much appreciated!
I’ve valued queries from both sides but now am seeing a perspective shift against them after using them for 5 years mainly vaulted. They can be perhaps too effective to the point of causing the side effects of deformities where just after showing off some double sleevers I’m uncertain that’s my case and will reexamine. Although not having any serious issues the anxiety grows from recent insertions and corner clashing hence having no space to slide into increasingly becomes potential card sleeve vagina dentata.
All along single sleevers were right about the looks, having less of a foggy appearance. Sleeves as a hole have increasingly slept on topic, another topic to make. Pokémon Center Japan is my go-to.
