I bought two base unlimited Venusaur cards and received them both today. The yellow edges on both are a wildly different shade than each other. The one with the darker border, everything seems more bold, like the ink is thicker across the whole card. Is this normal, or have I been sent a possible proxy, and if so, could anyone help me figure out which isn’t real? I can take better pictures if it helps, just took these earlier and got around to uploading them now.
Color variation on borders is not uncommon (that also can occur from sun bleaching). It’s hard to tell from the photos (the colors actually look pretty much the same in the bottom photo), but I am pretty sure everything is alright.
I don’t think I would call the edge colors wildly different. It’s not uncommon for colors to vary as they do in your picture. Both those cards are real.
Here are some better images. @mjs61290 , @eyesofmadara ,
The edges are cut a little different as well on the bottom right. You can also see the difference in the thickness of the ink on the two last pictures.
Again, there’s nothing wrong with the cards. They are both genuine and variation like this is pretty common. The same thing happens with charizards that look more red than orange.
They both look real. Ink variation is a thing specially in older wotc sets, or even for sun damage
Thanks guys! I’m just overly worried about everything right now with the market and tons of proxies being listed on sites like ebay.
Yeah some look like dark mustard and others look super light yellow. It’s jarring in a large quantity of cards but I’ve seen in a lot in base set specifically.@loulz,
Totally normal, your Venusaurs are both real…See two of my Charizards that vary extremely in their ink depth.
