last auction price:
So its basically selling the same as a PSA/BGS 8, Makes no sense.
@isharpkil, taking that price it just sold for and coupling it with whats available and other recent sales is your best guesstimate in finding the average price for a card of that sort. If looking to buy, id just gauge what youre willing to pay and try to see if that fits in with what any seller is willing to take at this given time.
If you take the last 5 or so sales you’re gonna see a variation in the final prices on the order of $1000s. This card has not hit a stable equilibrium point between supply and demand so prices are not going to “make sense”
The last public PSA 8 sale was my one at 1500 AUD or ~950 USD (I listed it for 2000 AUD, accepted a best offer of 1500 AUD). The last 9 that sold just the other day was 1575 USD.
While there are 8s on the market at the 1500 USD price point, they’re seemingly not selling so I’d peg the price at closer to 1000 USD - particularly given the very recent PSA 9 auction.
True but recently a sold ungraded copy went for 2000+…
I’m probably going to be listing up a PSA 8 next week for auction so we will see where it lands. I feel that auctions are pretty good indicators of current pricing, especially when it has been a few weeks or months since one has sold so openly in the public.
Should give us another good data point moving forward as this card settles out and finds its price point
My man, there is no set rule for what a card is suppose to sell for. People will pay the price they deem worthy. You see people overpay ALL THE TIME because they see more value in a card than the current market identifies or the card is so scarce that the only option is to overpay in order to guarantee acquiring that card.
Combine the recent spike in prices, with the hype of T17 and difficulty to grade and you get major uncertainty in prices. If you don’t want it, then do not buy it, but do not be surprised if none are left in your price range 1 month from now. That is all there is to it.
Lastly a grade does not guarantee worth to many collectors, especially high value cards. If I see a high value card has a grade of 8, then I still want to see the card to make sure it meets my standards. We have all seen BGS and PSA cards with “weak” grades and it can affect a price greatly.
In summation, do NOT expect a clear cut value on something like T17. Just know that it’s an expensive card and you need to pay what you think it is worth. A few sales do not determine value at all. Just an area of expectation.
Yes I get that, what do you think of Typhlosion 18 seems its also getting an increase in demand.
@joer summed up everything swimmingly for you, and lots of the same logic applies to that as well. In recent days theres been tons of threads talking on these matters, but at the end of the day, what anyone *thinks* will have no impact on whether or not someone will buy/sell. Thats up to the individual.
Not sure what your end goal here is in discussing these matters, but if youre buying/selling just consider all the points and move accordingly. Not much else to say beyond that.
added note: the search bar works wonders to find this topic and others thoughts on it. lots would agree that sharing it twice can be frustrating, so id suggest searching the matters and finding those threads for additional info.
