UK PSA returns VAT question

Hey guys! It’s been awhile since I last submitted to PSA from the UK - it used to be that we did not have to pay VAT on the PSA returns since they were considered exported goods, as long as we were able to provide a proof of export. Can I check if that is still the case? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@haggiscollects should be able to help.

Cheers!

It’s still the case, most shipping services will go through all the detail of your shipment including providing a description of the contents and the reason for export. Something along the lines of “sending item for repair then return” is normally a standard in the drop-down selection lists. If it asks for a description make sure you state something like “shipping trading card to PSA to undergo authentication and grading process, which will be returned to me within X months”. Make sure you retain your outgoing waybill (tracking number) and email confirmation of your export details. You shouldn’t have any issues. If using FedEx, they will contact you to confirm your export waybill number in an email before they release your cards back to you when they enter the UK after being returned from PSA. They used to charge an admin fee for this but don’t appear to anymore.

You will very occasionally get charged VAT even if you do everything right. I have literally no idea what the reason is, but like 2 out of my last 15 submissions have had VAT charged, and I use the same process every time. Just wanted to make you aware incase you do follow the great video by Haggis and still somehow get charged. I’d suggest that you’re ready to pay it, but in a vast majority of the time you’ll just get a call or an email asking for your export tracking number, and all is fine like Josh said

I’ve had it happen once too. In that case I sent a couple of emails and eventually they sorted it out, but it took a couple of months IIRC.
