I recently purchased an unlimited Umbreon holo from neo discovery, and noticed the holo was going through the umbreon itself. I asked someone on eBay about this, and he told me it is an error. Is this true? Is it rare, and does it actually increase the value of the card?
I can agree on this. There are some cards that are more common with holo bleeding. They don’t exactly change the price of the card.
Some do and some don’t. Even if they do, the change is pretty insignificant. I own a Tapu Koko holo promo and it has holo bleeding, and its fairly common for that card. What would be sought after may be a zard from base set with a holo bleed.
Also, it depends on how bad the holo bleeding is. If it is significant then it may be a lot more desirable than ones that have less significant holo bleeds.
None the less it is a collectable for those who collect error cards or who collect Umbreon cards.
There is a thread around here with a Misdreavus and Houndoom from the NEO Revelation set that had this Bleed thru error. Also one with Espeon from NEO Discovery having a different “background” compared to the common one. I guess more people should chip in, maybe this version is more common than the non-holo bleed?
Earlier this year we had decent sized topic about different errors etc. , a bit too old for bumping though. Page 7 probably has the Espeon you’re referring.
Not directed at you at all, I just get tired of these “holo bleed errors”. IMO its not an error in my mind, some had more layers of ink during the printing process, sometimes the ink was light and leads to this if I understand the process correctly. Ebay has tried to capitalize on these and in turn others perceive the value and rarity to be much more.
Sorry to vent in your thread, I feel like I see these threads everyday about some minor ink spot or bleed “error” and the value of the card.
I completely agree with this to be honest, except for the neo revelation ones which actually add appeal to the cards. The holo on the umbreon itself is barely visible in normal light, and doesn’t add much for me. Just wanted to be sure it’s not something super rare or valuable.
I concur. The popularity seemed to stem from the Evo print run it seems. I did collect most/ all the Evo holo bleed cards and I enjoy those when it’s significant. Really makes the card pop in a different way. But when you see people pushing “holo bleed” on ebay and IG when there is a couple specs of holo foil peeking through it’s just silly.
