Unique collections

Hi, I was wandering if anyone have a unique collection?

I started collecting about a year ago and after seeing how many cards there are, with many variants for some cards I decided to focus my collecting on one collection so I won’t spend too much and to not get too carried away.
After getting a bit more into it i saw so many beautiful cards I wanted, but still nedded a way not to get carried away, so I started another two “projects”.

For example, I have 3 projects/collections I currently focus on

  1. All english Snorlax varaints (and huge respect to @Sleepingfatboi for doing it in all languages)
  2. A gallery of connected artwork/ story (I started thanks to this post Gallery of Cards With Connected Artwork)
  3. Emerald pokedex+ Trainers (which I’ve shared a bit on here Hoenn hoes)

I personally dont collect graded cards or sealed products, but if you have a unique collection of those I’ll be happy to hear about them.

I will wait for fellow collectors to reply but just from the top of my head

@ReganRampage - Collection of Pre-Release stamped cards

@seeingdubble - Double Swirl collection

Maybe this thread can also guide you to some fun and unique collections.

Cheers!

@c011ect0r filler collection comes to mind as well: List of All Filler Card Variations (Blank Errors) - 04/18/25 Update

And I guess some of my collection sub-goals are fairly unique, like the first TCG card released in each language; or all raw, sealed, and graded variations of the Moltres promo. :slight_smile: Here is everything I collect for Pokémon:

  1. Pikachu TCG cards in all languages and variations up to Feb. 27th, 2021 (25th Pokémon Day), as well as ALL English Pikachu TCG; the Base Set artwork reprints in all languages; and one of each non-English exclusive artwork, after that date.
  2. All English full art Supporter and Character Rare cards, as well as non-English exclusive artworks.
  3. Everything Seviper. All Seviper TCG cards in all languages, including cameos; as well as all non-TCG Seviper products (plushies; figures; non-TCG cards; stickers; posters; DVD covers; pogs/tazos; etc. etc.)
  4. The Moltres WotC #21 promo in all languages; raw, sealed, and graded.
  5. The BREAKthrough Swablu in all languages.
  6. The first TCG card released in every language.
  7. Ancient Mew sixtet in PSA-10.

Numbers 2, 3a (TCG), 5, and 7 are 100% complete. For number 1 I’m missing nine Pikachu cards (five Japanese; two German; two Spanish). 3b is a never-ending journey. :sweat_smile: For number 4 I’m only missing some graded foreign variants, and iff it exists the Danish sealed promo. For number 6 I just have to get the Latin American Spanish Caterpie non-holo from the Journey Together set.

WOW that seems like quite a unique collection indeed
your collection is quite big and has a lot of different focuses, do you have a financial “plan” for how much you spend on pokemon? or each collection?
if you dont mind me asking… (to clarify, I’m not asking how much you spend)

I consider mine as unique but mostly because nobody bothers with it. :man_shrugging:

Not really. :sweat_smile: But to be fair, I’ve been collecting for almost 10 years now, and I defintely haven’t started all of these different collection goals at once. So all those collection goals I named have been spread over those ~10 years. (And I’ve also had some other collection goals in the past that I’ve dropped later on - e.g. Mimikyu collection or National Index.)

There defintely has been times it was quite stressful, both financially and timewise. In 2019 a total of 233 Pikachu TCG cards were releases for example, so it was a pain to keep up.. And during the pandemic, prices for even simply cards sky-rocketed, which is also why I decided to stop collecting Pikachu in all languages since Feb. 27th, 2021 (25th Pokémon Day), which was a good opportunity to adjust my collection goal.
In the Team Up set there were also 6 Mimikyu and 4 Pikachu (each times 11 active languages at the time), and an additional 10 FA Supporter cards. So that was the moment I decided to stop my Mimikyu collection.

Nowadays a lot of these collection goals have been completed, as mentioned near the bottom of my post above. It’s mostly just keeping up with new releases for Pikachu and FA Supporter cards, and the occasional Seviper TCG release. Apart from that, my main focus nowadays are Seviper non-TCG items.

With the background above, to answer your question a bit: in the past I’ve always set aside the same amount of money every time I got my wages (about 1/3rd of it). The other 2/3rd was mostly for Pokémon, and slightly for other necessities (e.g. mobile phone; cloths; etc. - I was still living with my parents at the time, so there weren’t too many necessities to spend money on and I could mostly spend it on my hobbies and saving for my future).
Nowadays I still set the 1/3rd aside on my savings account, but since I now own a house and car, I also spend an additional 1/3rd on mortgage, electricity/water, etc. But although I now have less to spend on Pokémon than before, I also have less I want to spend it on since I’ve already completed a lot of my collection goals.
(Although the higher prices on modern cards isn’t something I enjoy tbch.. I lately have the feeling I spend more money with every new set on the English FA Supporter cardss.. And don’t even get me started on some of the 400+ USD Pikachu SRs or promos.. :unamused_face: )

I collected legend maker with every holo card having a swirl. The scans don’t do it justice, so I’ll update it with photos at some point.
