I have a few thousand code cards laying around for the TCGO. I really have no use for them. I could bundle them and sell them on ebay but is there any reputable easier way to get rid of them? I don’t mind sorting them or scanning the QR codes in digitally.
Definitely don’t toss them. Big eBay lot is a good idea but definitely doesn’t maximize profit, though can’t beat how quick it is. 50 code lots or 36 code lots are popular on eBay if you sell boosters by set. Some of them are worth a crazy amount, earlier theme decks and stuff, but slow sellers. Dark hammer goes for about $20 just for one example. Plasma freeze is over $1 each, closer to $2 each. I have bought out collections on CL and a few times I have gotten more $$ worth in code cards than in the actual collection. Some really random earlier theme decks sell really well. Other than eBay there are probably sites with “buylists” that buy them as well, but I do not know of any. There are threads on reddit where folks buy and sell them also.
Thanks! A reputable site with a buylist would be great if anyone knows of any. I’d consider doing the ebay lots by set. I’m sure I have a bunch of the older/ more desirable boosters like Plasma Freeze. Just need to dig them up and organize them.
If you were looking to sell all at once with very little work on your end, I would be willing to make an offer on them if you don’t want to be bothered breaking them down. I sell a ton of codes on my eBay. Shoot me a PM if interested, but if you have a little time to kill and don’t mind listing them yourself that is definitely the best way to extract all the $$ out of them.
I’ve sold a few PTCGO codes myself. What I did was putting them on reddit.com/pkmntcgtrades (https://www.reddit.com/r/pkmntcgtrades/comments/5i1gtr/if_youre_only_buyingselling_ptcgo_items_post_your/). As of January 1st you aren’t allowed to sell PTCGO codes on there anymore, though… I believe some of the sellers made a new reddit-page, but that’s still in the first phases, so not sure if you are able to sell them there.
I personally just looked at the average prices on the reddit-thread for the codes I had, and put them on for around 66% of that. Sold all of them without a day, except for the Pikachu Theme Deck codes (I think I calculated the wrong amount…). But perhaps eBay as bulk is also an option. Most might not be worth a lot, but even if you sell 100 codes for just ~15 USD, it’s still better than nothing when you throw them away.
I’m fairly sure emailing them counts as selling digital good which I don’t think is allowed on eBay. Many people still email the codes though I believe.
I use the professor oak app - I think it’s iOS only but it has a built in scanner and you just scan the qr codes then 1-2 days later the money gets deposited into your paypal. It’s great for basically a $12-$15 rebate on opening new boxes because I don’t play online.
I’ve sold thousands of codes on ebay through message with no problems at all. Codes can be very lucrative. For example 36 Burning Shadows codes are over $18 right now!
What I did when I sold some Japanese codes was send the codes in a message and the physical cards in the mail. I also scanned the codes so I had a copy as reference in case I made a typo.
That way the person could use the codes right away and I was sending physical objects. I sent tracked as I was getting $40 a set or something like that. I just made sure the action states they were buying the code cards.
Now this seems like the best idea yet. Defiantly great on the customer service side of things. Going the extra mile here may result in other business down the line.
I enjoy opening new sets more on the TCGO. It costs a heck of a lot less and the online game is very well-engineered and enjoyable. It’s great that I can play people online and I don’t have to build an IRL deck for a ton more money.
(Slightly unrelated, but I do believe every collector should at least have a basic understanding of how to play the trading card game and how the meta is in general. I’ve found it very helpful many a time.)
