Longish story here with alot of screenshots. The messages speak for themselves, fuck this guy.
TLDR: Guy on IG offers to buy cards at upcoming CAC, I send a request for card in advance. He finds the card, I send him the money, he buys the card. He asks me if I would re-sell it higher and split the profit, I said no please don’t I want the card badly. He sells the card 2 hours later for $1000 more, refunds me, and sends me $100 on top of what I paid for the card.
Basically, the screenshots says it all. Total scumbag move, then offers to buy more cards for me before telling me I burned a bridge. LOL, for a second I thought I was going crazy talking to him trying to make me feel bad. Totally upsetting, I guess I am back in the market for this card again (WTB Thread coming soon).
For reference I bought one card off him for $1800 a month prior
Okay reading that was frustrating, you paid for the card and the guy sells YOUR card that you explicitly bought with his written consent. Then he doesn’t even give you half the profit he sold your card for after saying he would.
Hopefully no one uses him in the future as a middle man or anything. He wasn’t doing any business or favors with the extra $100, that’s purely stealing from the way I see it.
exactly. the half of the profits at that point is just not relevant, but hilarious that he didn’t even mention it when he profited $1000. the whole “pay for my time thing is just trash”, he made a post on IG literally offering to do this
The fact that he waited for you to give him the money & pay for the card just to immediately say “I’m gonna sell your card if I’m offered more”. Probably knew you wouldn’t use him if he disclosed that from the beginning.
He wasn’t trying to do an honest service, just scouting for 0 risk flipper opportunities.

I love how he keeps demanding you to see things from his point of view when that’s the only one he can see.

This is rough reading. While I understand making $1k is huge for some people, it wasn’t his $1k to make. If you hadn’t sent the cash and he fronted it for you it would be a little grey but you’d paid for the card at an agreed price. You’d also said not to sell for more when asked. Unfortunate that it’s not an easy card to find as that makes things much worse for you. Sorry you have to deal with it mate.
Sorry it happened to you mrtz. I don’t stand by it and wouldnt use the seller but the almighty dollar is a universal language. Sucks that they didn’t stand by their original words but you never had more than a promise without the card in your hand. He said he’d sell it if he got a reasonable offer, he denied $3700 which is a $500 come up, unfortunately someone with even deeper pockets went further in. Feels like a won auction had the seller cancel because they sold higher in person, not moral but nothing you can do.
I can dislike the integrity of the seller and wouldnt trust their word (not that its expected for a rando from IG), but Im not surprised at the situation and think its a bit extreme to make a post on how much they suck. We already know people will rob you blind in this hobby if you let them, just another day. Even you were trying to get the card for $2k when its worth more, the original seller wouldve been the one saying they were screwed over if it wasnt you.
What a clown. I hate to say it but this does not surprise me given the quality of most people on instagram.
I personally think they deserve all the bad publicity they can get and support you in making this thread. There’s a big difference between an open-market deal and a backdoor sale of what is technically someone else’s property for your own personal gain. If anyone else wants to make any deals with this seller, they should know their word is worth nothing.

No I dont think a willing seller would have the same feelings as me. I offered $2000 and he turned it down so I increased my offer. Isnt that how it works?
I seem to be in the minority here believing that its not “yours” unless its in your possession. I had no idea it was such a rare card at that grade and I still agree was a scumbag move but, as I said, unsurprising. People are trying to flip cards at shows to make enough to cover their trip and that $1000 goes a long way. Unfortunate that they didnt even give you a chance to counter if they really were chasing dollars. As someone who operates with integrity, a post made just to drag them is a bit much for my taste when a comment for a blocklist topic would have been sufficient.
I hope you can find one in a good price range that you can have someone worth trusting source for you. Best of luck on it and I really am sorry that they sucked like that.
