I have just finished the updated version of my Alt Art PDF Check List to include newer promos along with all cards from the newest set Crown Zenith!
Also I have been working on something else which is an Alt Art Checklist of Pre-2021 Cards. Some people may ask “How do you classify an Alt Art vs any other card?”
To me, an Alt Art must have:
-Full Art
-Texture
-Secret Rare
-A “different angle” or scene of a Pokemon
Some exclusions exist especially for Pre-2021 cards, but not many.
Feel free to download and start checking off those binder cards and go “Catch Em All”!
The Pre-2021 Check list’s Japanese Numbers aren’t correct. It will take a HELL of a long time finding all these cards, but I will update it in a week or so
So, to me and most of my fellow collectors, an alternate art must be an additional card by the same name (and mechanics) that’s textured and full art but WITHIN THE SAME SET.
So, for example, in your Sun & Moon list, I wouldn’t consider Vileplume GX an alt art, since that’s the only full art Vileplume GX in Cosmic Eclipse. If there were a regular, full art Vileplume GX (textured) that was plain, then they also have the one with Erika, then I’d consider that an alt art.
Hmmm definitely an interesting take and something to consider for the future. This list just served as the basis of “Alt Art” cards that we knew of during the time of making this post. Obviously now the list of Alt arts cards have grown exponentially with the definition of Alt arts changing set by set. If I ever update this list, I would consider altering the definition of an alt art and trim this list.
