UV light testing, with a UV meter!

Hey guys!
So I recently purchased a UV light meter and decided to sit out in the blazing sun and try it out. After playing with it some I decided to try out some UV resistant products to see how they stack up. Take a look at my results below!

The most interesting thing that I tested was the UV resistant one touch. Results MUCH better than i thought they would be. However, at the same time, when testing the same product during my eight months of testing I still saw fading. I’m curious if the product wears out over time, or if with enough time, light will damage regardless of protection level.

Would love to see everyone’s thoughts on the matter. AND as an added bonus, if you want me to test something out I would be happy to do so.

Did you check a PSA case?

Nicely done video btw

Great video. Seeing that it’s not 100% protection your bound to get fading eventually no matter how much the protection is. It’ll just happen at a slower rate than something with lower protection because the is still that 2-3% exposure at a constant rate presumably. I wouldn’t be surprised if the protection does start to weaken with constant exposure either so maybe you’d have to conduct a test where you test the readings on new items and then leave them out for an extended period and even check back for new readings over the course of 6-12 months.

Was hoping you would stack the good test subjects to see if the thickness would play a factor in reducing the UV.

Still very cool, thanks for doing this.

I think the issue with that is that you lose clarity of the item your trying to protect.

Like what Gary says.

You could even test the different versions of PSA cases i.e. new v old v og cases.

Anyway great video!

Actually made me interested in measuring and protecting my glass cabinet of more expensive cards.
Will be going on a holiday here from tomorrow, but making plans for purchasing some type of microcontroller and a UV sensor, to see how much it is actually being exposed to.

Thanks for the awesome videos, and motivivating me to complete my first IoT project
